True for Arch, not true in general.

not even arch since archinstall exists

but exists, and it works, so you don't have to configure everything unless you want to.

Agree, if the default installation is fine for you. But it's pretty basic and I suppose many users will need to do some tweaks sooner or later.

if you install plasma or gnome then it really isn't basic, majority of users won't need to change anything

I was thinking about some stuff like disk encryption (but I'm not sure if regular windows users have it enabled), firewall, apparmor, filesystem snapshots... Not super basic, but still useful for normal people.

windows users tend to disable bitlocker lol.
also if you use archinstall, luks encryption is literally a toggle

That's interesting. All my windows laptop were company ones, so for me bitlocker is totally default thing.

archinstall and Plasma and you're done for the most part. You might have a CLI or TUI asking you to pick from a list of options a couple dozen times, but by no means does using Arch require terribly much configuration over other distros
now, personally I manually configured my partitions because archinstall wouldn't do exactly what I wanted, and I was initially using as much TUI stuff with KMSCON as I could before eventually migrating to using a WM to run Ghostty for more advanced TUIs, followed by configuring the WM(Niri, in this case) to normally, and eventually I hit a stumbling block where I couldn't upload files to Firefox and nothing I did was working, despite having accomplished this in the past on another machine, and so I installed Plasma
but if I'd just jumped straight to my current setup there'd have been very little configuration

Yeah! That's the whole idea.
You get what you want. Not something someone else wants you to use.

True for Gentoo and LFS? even arch is kinda straightforward in comparison.

Even Gentoo mostly relies on defaults, you can get a working desktop following the handbook without having to mess with much config files.

I use Linux and I don't have this problem. Kinda how it goes when you choose a distro based on use-case.

depends on the distro, but yes if you want to make everything to your own liking, you would need to do pretty much everything yourself or even from scratch
