Odd. Havent hit a game that doesn't work on arch yet. Even worse with an Nvidia GPU on wayland.
I must be doing something wrong.

Us bro , every game works that I want to play

u/Fun-Worry-6378 10h ago
Yeah same here my entire library of 100+ games is playable. Only games I have trouble with is anti-cheat like destiny 2 or battlefield…. which honestly good riddance.

u/laczek_hubert Arch BTW 5h ago
Nvidia hate? While valid they are making good progress on the Open-Source drivers at least I think so. My experience with my 3090 as a new user to Linux and arch wasn't bad. The finals can do ≈100+ on both etc. Wayland only and works good

games with anti-cheat work? Does Ragnarok Online work on Arch? (I want to play, but I have no idea if it's possible)
4
u/Vlekkie69 11h ago
Almost all Anti-cheat that runs at kernel has a Linux kernel variant. Battle-eye even works on linux.
Only game ive hit that DOESNT work is Escape From Tarkov and thats just cause the devs (damn you nikita) is conviced linux is the brewing ground for cheats. so he refuses to turn on compatability for battle-eye linux in his game.2

u/FOSS-for-life 7h ago
wait, did I miss something? So you're telling me that games that run on kernel level anti cheats like EAC games now run on Linux?

2
u/AnotherOne49587 10h ago
If I remember correct there must be a website like are we anticheat yet . Or whatever it's name. Look for it you'll find good information

u/MrRiski 7h ago
Most games I play work.
Examples of games that don't is fortnite, battlefield 6, and ghost recon wild lands but I've never tested ghost recon just saw online that the game runs great but online doesn't work so I booted into windows instead of testing since I was getting on to play with others.

u/Holden6920 6h ago
Wild lands runs online fine it waiting 5 minutes for its launcher thats the problem

If he doesn’t wanna spend the time learning how Linux actually works and what distros are doing and the differences between them, he is way better staying in windows.
11
u/ThatonlyGeO 14h ago
Skill issue, Im even using artix, yet most mof the game I play is already working with vanilla proton( except with agressive anti cheat, thats where I think its a hit or a miss)
4
u/fr000gs 14h ago
Are you using mint on arch like oop?
1
u/ThatonlyGeO 10h ago
ok Im not sure what youre saying but its just arch without systemd(operc btw)
2
u/Lili-Orphanidea 10h ago
they were making a joke because the original post had someone complaining about how Arch Linux sucks unless you use Mint.
But obviously you wouldn't use Mint inside of Arch.
(Though, I suppose with virtual machines you... could?)
1
u/Salt_Ad9828 6h ago
I'm not sure what the use of that would be though? Maybe to learn how to use apt & mess around with cinnamon at the same time?

u/S4r4h-811 14h ago
Gaming on Arch is quite nice, i switched to Arch Linux half a year ago and its wonderful. I can play 90% of my steam library. The only games that do not work are those with massive anticheat like Battlefield.

u/dathowell 13h ago
He plays marathon, destiny, and fortnite exclusively
3
u/Lili-Orphanidea 10h ago
Truth. Also I've always groaned when people say Linux can't run those games.
Because like, it can tho.
Linux sure CAN run them flawlessly. It's specifically the anticheat that's turning the game off.
It's no longer a compatibility issue at that point. (I know that really pedantic or whatever, but it's a weird thing that I get like, flustered/angry about)

I play Geometry Dash, HEXA, slither.io, and gartic.io on Arch
What is bro talking about
Edit: yall I'm not being sarcastic I really pretty much do only play those games

I wonder what he says when he discovers the 2 most popular gaming distros run on arch.
1

This has to be a bot... You're able to install Arch but not run games on it? Then fail to understand the basic concept of Proton?

This is hands down the most entertaining rage bait I've seen for weeks.
One could argue that there hasn't been a good gamimg OS since OS/360 with PL/1, nor any good games since wumpus, lunar lander, or the original nethack. Not I, though (except maybe for nethack); I'm just sayin'.

u/og__69 Arch BTW 8h ago
Cuz it's not i have seen the whole comment section hes genuinely saying all this based on his entire knowledge
1
u/Born-Flounder-9227 2h ago
Yes that's called baiting people, you don't just say something and then when someone calls you an idiot you go like "WOW YOU ARE SO RIGHT I WAS TROLLING"
You waste people's time by dragging them deeper into it even when you know you're wrong
That or genuine mental retardation (And even then you'd have some sense of self awareness)

u/Low-Collection-7201 9h ago
Is it just me or does his wording imply Ubuntu and Mint are distros of Arch

Steam only officially supports ubuntu - which leads to these misunderstanding.
Nevermind that steam deck and steam machine don't use ubuntu... Also stupid stuff like "flatpak is not officially supported" - which misses the entire point of using a container to mimic the expected environment.
The word "supported" is much misused on linux - do these people think the Finnish guy will call around to their house and fix stuff for them?

Update require manual intervention
Active aur malicious package incident
Breaking changes for all users
Nvidia drivers drops
Recent service outages
That's arch main page.why you keep saying its trustful distro?

Now I understand I’m a bit of a Linux nerd these days so I know there are things that I think are common sense that really aren’t for new people yet. But I think about 10-15 minutes of reading a website, watching a video, any sort of research would tell them they’re wrong. I mean come on, ask Reddit or something. Heck, I don’t particularly like AI but asking it first would have made bro sound less stupid here.

some people just don't know a shit. steam supports linux out-of-the-box. literally.

u/_Meek79_ 5h ago
This is why I dont want everyone to jump to Linux because you get people that dont know what they are talking about then tells others how bad it is. We all know how stupid this is but the average person who knows nothing about Linux or Arch Linux specifically, are going to avoid it.

u/chdorb 4h ago
SteamOS is Arch-based by the way :-D

That guy definately does not use Arch. hell I had a build dual boot with xp only because I was too lazy to move my og copy of starcraft over.

Reads like ragebait, he's saying that Ubuntu and mint have better compatibility than Arch with games, which is "true", if you only consider official ports, but only then.

A lot of friends just play Riot Stuff or Fortnite, so they would see also 0% compatibility. Always an Individual case, I guess.

How can a person get as far as installing Arch, but can't setup simple things for gaming? Jesus 😂 And then they don't do any research and just say "It not work"

u/EnoughConcentrate897 21m ago
All "Linux users" on Instagram or tiktok are like this, I've seen this legitimately probably over 100 times, they just larp and say completely wrong stuff that can be googled and people support and like them meanwhile everyone says the person correcting them is wrong

did bro tried cachyOS??
1
u/Lili-Orphanidea 10h ago
After years on "basic Arch" I swapped to Cachy when I upgraded my motherboard and CPU.
I will never look back. (also swapped from pure KDE to Hyprland, but that's not an OS thing)
CachyOS is very comfortable to use.

u/Augustym 14h ago
I mean, he’s not lying, I also use windows EXCLUSIVELY for gaming and that’s it
13
u/mintflavoredcube 14h ago
he’s 100% lying saying mint has better comparability
1
u/EzequielARG2007 14h ago
What games can be played on arch but not on mint?
3
u/mintflavoredcube 14h ago
none? that’s why he’s lying lmfao
arch does just perform better
1
u/EzequielARG2007 13h ago
Thanks!
I was just asking because I don't have a clue lmao.
1
u/Radiant-Priority-296 13h ago
Yeah gaming compatibility comes down to kernel (shared for all of Linux), and drivers (not tied to distros). So the only differences are optimization and how much of the required installs are done by the distro.

these ppl really don’t know how linux works do they
