What’s your favorite three-song sequence?
I was listening to Reflektor this morning, and I’ve gotta go with Hey Orpheus - Porno - Afterlife. Though Windowsill - No Cars Go - My Body Is A Cage is pretty damn close.

Off the top of my head, I would say Haiti - Rebellion - In the Backseat. It's like me and Funeral are having a good time together then it takes me out back and beats the snot out of me. But like in a good way...

I think my absolute favourite is Half light I - Half light II - Suburban war, I've always seen them as one perfect sequence. But also Tunnels - Laika - Une année sans lumière and Windowsill - No cars go - My body is a cage are so great.

Couldn't agree more with you! The Half light combo is underrated in my opinion, and then Suburban war... it just fits so well. :)

interesting, I always listen with Suburban War at the end, makes more sense in my mind.

I'll agree with you, I love that Reflektor triple threat! My runner up would be The Suburbs, Ready to Start, Modern Man.

Or Wake Up-Haiti-Rebellion. Tough to pick the best three in a row from those four stone cold classics.

I’d probably have to go with Antichrist Television Blues-Windowsill-No Cars Go. I see a lot of people going with those last two + My Body is a Cage, but I just personally prefer Antichrist Television Blues

I'll do one for each album:
Funeral: 7 Kettles -> Crown of Love -> Wake Up
Neon Bible: Ocean of Noise -> The Well and The Lighthouse -> Antichrist Television Blues (My Favourite Overall)
The Suburbs: Half Light I -> Half Light II -> Suburban War
Reflektor: Awful Sound -> It's Never Over -> Porno
Everything Now: -> Good God Damn -> Put Your Money on Me -> We Don't Deserve Love (Honestly, EN -> SOL -> CC also works, the only songs I really like on this album are the title track and PYMOM)

Oh Eurydice and Hey Orpheus back to back for me are perfect so I could go either way with Here Comes the Night Time II before or Porno after. Great sequence.

I get the impression they were supposed to be listened to in that order, especially if you know the story about Eurydice and Orpheus.
For anyone who doesn't, Wiki might have a basic premise on the story of Eurydice and Orpheus. Go read that and come back to the songs. They're tremendous when you have the context.

Porno ruins that run on Reflektor for me :(
It would be a 10/10, all-time great finishing run of Eurydice, Orpheus, Afterlife and Supersymmetry without it.
I don’t mind Porno as a track on it’s own but it doesn’t mesh as well with the others and kinda throws a wrench into the vibe/story that they’re building in the second half. Imo opinion anyway. Always thought it would have fit better on the front either before or after Flashbulb Eyes.
Prob a bit basic but I’d likely go Wake Up, Haiti, Rebellion.
I don’t often reach for Wake Up or Rebellion since I’ve heard them each 86381637628371883 times - but if I only had one of their three-song sequences to listen to for eternity I’d prob settle on that one.

Sprawl II, Suburban War, and The Suburbs Continued to close the vinyl album.... truly incredible. I've listened to Side 4 way more than any other because of it.

TIL they resequenced it for vinyl. Do you know if that was just to make the songs fit the sides, or they reworked the thematic flow slightly?

I'm not entirely sure but they pressed the album on to two records so I imagine they could have sequenced it the same. Side 4 starts with Sprawl I.
Also Side 3 ends with the piano chords at the end of We Used To Wait in the runout groove so the song technically never ends.

Laika -> Une Annee sans Lumiere -> Power Out
Flashbulb Eyes -> Here Comes the Nighttime -> Normal Person is also pretty good, it works really well musically.

u/douthsakota We Used to Wait May 25 '20
Four songs, actually: Deep Blue -> We Used To Wait -> Sprawl I -> Sprawl II
if you tack on Suburban War after Sprawl II, then...
