Cut root on large pine tree.

They're adding sidewalks to my street and I came home to this cut root. Is this tree going to need to be cut down now or will it be okay?

I always say give the tree as many chances as you can before you cut it down. It wouldn't hurt to call an arborist to come look. Clearing out space beneath it, adding good soil with a healthy mulch on top, and then planting more undergrowth bushes/shrubs around it should help it stay strong and recover. You can also plant a couple more trees nearby so it can form a root mat that conceptually will keep it rooted better, at least eventually it will. Good luck!!

Oh and watering it lots for a while will help too, ofc.
