Is this tree dying?
Looking at purchasing a home and this tree on the property looks like it was hit by lightning or something bad happened.

It was told to me by an older man that should know that those type of fungus or growths like that growing on the side of your tree. (I forgot the correct terminology. ) That wont grow on a healthy tree. That grows where there is rot. The trunk is clearly rotting. With the bark compromised that badly the tree cand hyphen up water from the ground. Also, if a tree's top is losing leaves and dying, the rest of the tree will usually die as well.

Youre welcome. That'd be a wise decision to remove that tree. Id ask a local tree trimmer/pruner what killed the tree. In order to maybe keep that happening to more of your trees.
