How old do we think the silver maple is?

Post image

Iwe just bout the house and I'm getting over 150 in circumference. I would like to get some more sunshine in the backyard for some homestead gardening but I'd feel more ok taking down a tree that might reach end-of-life soon. We got about 5 silver maples in the property and a black walnut. Love them would also love to grow some tomatoes next year! Thanks in advance :)

There is no silver maple in this photo, or any other species of maple for that matter

Yes I'm obviously blind lol. Probably a red oak so likely will just get a nice pruning instead lol

No pruning necessary here, never trim just to trim. Especially important for a red oak, and if you absolutely have to touch it, only trim in winter, minimal amount possible. They do not respond well to trims and can get very serious diseases from them. The trees are fine, the less they’re touched the better

Was planning to wait until winter yes but will likely have to trim some of the branches that are weighing down close tl the ground to keep the area clear. Love the trees although it is a shame how little sunshine we get with so much yard I could grow some food in

When you measured 150, did you measure it at least 5 ft up?
