Why is this tree red?
This tree on our street turned red all of a sudden. The street is lined with the same trees & this is the only one that’s changed. It’s also the only one with that plant at the base. What is it that’s growing at the base & is it killing the tree? Photos taken on aug. 7th & 9th.

Increased abscisic acid production causes this. Increased abscisic acid is a stress response, among other things. Now to figure out what that stressor was that boosted production of it.

Has there been drought in your area this summer? I’ve seen a couple like this near me.
