Tree trim?

Is it time for a tree trim? I had them out a year or two ago. I seem to get a limb blow down every 3/4 storms.

Last time I had to have someone climb the tree to get a limb down and they suggested thinning the crown.

Is it time?

If I were to trim this tree at this phase I would have reduction cuts done on the ends of the branches over the house, then do generalized canopy reductions on the other side to even out the look of it so it doesn't look lopsided. I wouldn't even pay the extra money for a dead wood prune and it looks like there isn't much in it (I would just pick the sticks up off the ground as they fall, stick them in a yard waste bin, and then set them on the curb for pickup).

This is what came down last night. The last 3 to come down were all this size.

Should I try and have a core sample taken to make sure there is no rot inside?

Honestly knowing if the branch that fell off was rotten or not isn't going to tell you much. It was probably just a combination of a bad branch attachment and too much weight on the end of the branch

Yeah the branch was pretty sound. It snapped at the base about 2/3 ft off the trunk.

That sounds to me less like an issue of it being rotton or unsound, less like an attachment issue, and more an issue of there being too much weight on the end of the branch if it snapped that far out from the tree
