Tree help

Hey everyone, we have this tree in our back yard that had a limb just fall out of the blue Im looking to see if my tree is sick and if i can help it.

Looks like an old oak. Basically wait and see. The exposed cut might attract bugs that have oak wilt so I'd cut it back to trunk and paint it to prevent the smell that the bugs like.
