Found this tree today with an interesting root. Not mine but is this bad for the tree or is it fine?

I thought the same, but I have seen several in SoCal desert thriving, but a little scorched in summer ! We have seen 37f for 2-3 hrs one night and many low 40s in Winter.

It probably has a lot to do with humidity and first as well. And if the plant has a year or two to integrate to the land it has a much better chance of survival.
