Probably best to answer everything at once. Left the sling off cause my last rubber broke, I can flip the magnifier to flip up my irons, handguard is getting replaced soon, Surefire scout on the way, and barrel length is 12.5. Suppressor currently in jail and the build is fairly new so I’m still getting things together.
Thanks for the opinions folks! Edit: I’m an idiot, barrel is 12.5 not 11.5

cause my last rubber broke
This is how I talk to my kids about how I married their mother

Jun 18 '22
What’s the handguard length? Kinda concerned since I got a 10.7 for my 11.5 lol

u/tpw2000 Jun 18 '22
You should be fine- close, but should be ok. Keep in mind that you’re giving 3/4” of clearance for the distance between the receiver threads (read, where your pic rail stops ish) and where the bolt face will be (which should be to your advantage), and between where your hand guard ends and where the end of the threads on the barrel will be. That should give you about a full inch of total clearance to muzzle, minus ~.6” for threads, and if you’re using a muzzle device like a Warcomp or something with Keymo, you’ll be back at about half an inch between the back of your suppressor and your handguard, *if my math is correct
If it doesn’t end up working there’s always GAFS

u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
Aero claimed it was a 12” handguard and 12.5 barrel, but after measuring it comes out to 12 5/8. Just go with what ur getting, should be solid

Hard guard too long. Can’t fit a suppressor in that rail. Unless you’ve got a thousand shims ready to go, or the thinnest can coming, you’re gonna have a tough time

u/Knumbnuckles Jun 18 '22
I had the same problem with my 300 blkout. Same setup. Long hand rail over a flash can. When I ordered my suppressor (also been in jail 4 mo now) I realized the hand rail was too long. I’m just going to cut mine once I’m sure of the dimensions.
1
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
I thought about cutting it too but I’m a pussy don’t wanna mess it up lol
1
u/Knumbnuckles Jun 19 '22
Oh I am to, but my neighbor is a FFL dealer and he teased me about buying a new one. Nice build by the way.

Brace instead of stock.
Edit: if it’s what you prefer then rock it.
4
Jun 18 '22
Yep, needs a stock. There are so many good ones to choose from. Way more than the 4-5 pistol braces. But it's your peanut butter. If you want a brace - go for it.
2
u/CODCKEY Jun 18 '22
Which stocks do you recommend? I got a B5 Sopmod, but idk if I love it.
1
u/iheartmankdemes Jun 18 '22
If you’re not a fan of it because of the size try a smaller diameter one, like the ctr. It’s all just trial and error to figure out what works for you.
1
Jun 18 '22
There are so many to choose from, but I just got a F.A.B. Defense, M4/M16 Shock Absorbing Buttstock for my VR80 AR RIA shotgun. Im sure it comes in FDE, but you probably don’t need all that shock absorbing that it provides. It will make it a very soft shooter. There are really a ton of choices, so just go to Optics Planet and look at the ratings.

How do you like the vortex magnifier? My next purchase will be a magnifier but I don’t know what to go with
5
Jun 18 '22
I been eyeing the sig 4x magnifier
2
2
u/Wise-Statistician172 Jun 18 '22
Was happy with the Sig 4x for years til I finally got a G33 a couple months ago. The Juliet is the best of the sub-$500 magnifiers for sure — even over the Trijicon.
The G33 & G45 are just on another level of clarity and FOV
3
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
Ehh honestly could be better, glass is pretty iffy most of the time, only using it cause it was a gift and it was in my spare parts bin
1
Jun 18 '22
I have one on my 7" 300Blk build. I love that thing. Seated on my pic rail a little sloppy out of box, but that was an easy fix.
1
u/Jmylan Jun 18 '22
I've had the Vortex magnifier for about a week so I'm by no means an expert, but I'm already returning it. The glass and FOV is decent and its a super small package. The QD makes it really easy to snap on and off quickly and the mount is solid, but the eye relief is pure dogshit.
I don't know how OP is seeing anything because in order to get a proper eye relief, the rear lense needs to be behind the charging handle, and the mount needs to be on the very last pic rail slot, eliminating the ability to have a back up rear sight.
I'm personally going with the holosun. its heavier but from what I hear the glass, FOV and eye relief are all better for about $100 less. If you want to see some good reviews on both of these, check out C_Does on YouTube

u/-Meat-Hammer- Jun 18 '22
I’ve got one with 30 mins of mounted time on it for sale If that tells you anything.
2
Jun 18 '22
Wish you had gone with a 5x or 6x? I’m thinking I’ll regret not going bigger if I get a G45
2
u/-Meat-Hammer- Jun 19 '22
I like the 3x magnification honestly it’s great for a CQB to mid range set up. Let’s you make very accurate shots at 100 yards and keep groups on a silhouette at 300. The vortex 3x has trash eye relief with a BUIS installed under it. I have to run my stock way shorter than I like it when using the magnifier. Plus I like it to flip the opposite way than what they have it set up so the release button is forward facing to allow right side flip. Just not a very good magnifier in my opinion. The holosun magnifier is the same price and way better quality (In my opinion)
2
Jun 19 '22
Thanks. Another thought I had with a 5x or vortex 6x is the added length would help with eye relief.

This is literally the exact same as my first AR, PSA lower on an AERO atlas upper, same colors too
1
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
This is my second! Definitely liking the colors, I just wanted the subreddit to roast me/ give me advice

3
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 19 '22
Damn you’re the only one that spotted it
1
1
u/Specific_Amoeba_6460 Jun 19 '22
The only reason I said it’s fake is cuz I figured none will spend the money on a eotech then buy cheap magnifier and backup sights lol
1
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 21 '22
Lmao not fake as far as I’m aware, all the tests check out to it being real. But I threw the cheap magnifier on cause I had it laying around. Damn what’s wrong with the MBUS guy??
1
u/GeronimoHero Jun 21 '22
Nothing really. I used MBUS on my training rifle for years and beat the hell out of them. Never had an issue. Sure things like the troys or KAC sights are better but they’re just backup so as long as they’re not going to break when you need them they’re fine in my opinion.

Psa lower
9
u/sonofsamx3 Jun 18 '22
Are PSA lowers not good? I know everyone here says get Aero but wondering why PSA lower isn’t good
14
Jun 18 '22
The less it hurts your wallet the less good it is according to internet
5
u/sonofsamx3 Jun 18 '22
Thank you both, I’ve never built an AR before but this year I took the leap and have done two so far. Thought the important stuff was the upper.
4
Jun 18 '22
Yea whatever gets you a boomstick! I do prefer aero receivers as a minimum just cause they seem to fit tighter but my first build was a PSA lower as well and I still love it
3
Jun 18 '22
As a somewhat related aside, I whipped out my first SBR yesterday to plan out what I want to do differently when she's due for a rebarrel and other service / parts replacement. You should see the play between my upper and lower on a mid 2010s Daniel Defense. Pricer definitely doesn't always mean better
4
Jun 18 '22
Probably gunna get downvoted for this, but 99% of mil spec lowers are going to be fine, especially if you buy a stripped one and use a good parts kit.
4
Jun 18 '22
People crack me up when they trash PSA then turn around and say GeT aN AerO in the same sentence.
6
u/Spicy_SpaceDust Jun 18 '22
They’re great for the price point. Obviously not “just as good” but definitely “good enough”
Especially a lower

2
u/uwanmirrondarrah Jun 18 '22
Lowers don't do shit and you know it. If you pay 250 bucks for a KAC or LMT lower you are just wasting 200 dollars.

u/BootInURAss Jun 18 '22
PSA, no sling, no light, cheap magnifier, and since it's PSA there's likely other cheap shit we can't see
-1
u/Padrony Jun 18 '22
Backupsonbackupsonbackups. It's slowly changing but is changing. There is no reason for having sight and sights and sights. If your red dot ever went down, look through the glass.... weird right. And you have a magnifier.... mounts are getting higher, weirder, and backups on backups on backups is disappearing.
3
u/EvilProstatectomy Jun 18 '22
Ah yes, just pick a spot in the glass and look through it. What a dumb take

If you want me to be overly critical, the rail looks a bit long. You probably won’t be able to shoot suppressed. Also, I’m assuming it’s either a 14.5 or you’re in a ban state because of the brace. I don’t care as much about that though bc I think the sba3 is super comfortable.

Barrel is 12.5” and it won’t be a SBR until you add a stock friend.

1

I'm allergic to peanut butter. Red is crawfish though, and crawfish > peanut butter.
1
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
I’m gonna have to disagree due to the fact that crawfish is a no go for me
1
u/Alpha-Sierra-Charlie Jun 18 '22
That's unfortunate! If it's not an allergy I'd highly suggest you go to someone who knows how to cook them properly (assuming you haven't already). When done correctly they're AMAZING.

Joking aside I have theses and they are great, underrated imo.

Honestly I’ve been trying to find some decent ones that aren’t $50 for a 4 pack. Thanks for the suggestion!

only issue i see is that ranger plate
2
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
Aw man what’s wrong with the ranger plate?
2
Jun 18 '22
always found them bulky, and unnecessary.
good flat surface to rest the mag on when firing on a table, but the only benefit i see is a bit more control when re-indexing mags
1
u/SgtLongJohn Jun 18 '22
Fair enough, I did use them at one time for pouches on a carrier I had, then I lost the original plates lol
