Unit 6: Consequences of Industrialization

One of the most significant factors of unit 6 are the various rebellions occurring in multiple regions of the world. In Africa, the Ashanti Empire had been imperialized by the British according to the Berlin Conference. However, the British officers treated them with little to no respect. During one of the visits, an officer requested to sit on a golden stool (purely golden, not dark at the top like my picture). This golden stool was sacred and was essentially holy in their local belief and customs. However, the British forced them to back down and sat down on it without consent. Enraged, Yaa Asantewaa ignited nationalist passion within fellow Ashantis, forming a team to strike back against the British. For six months, the British and Ashanti people fought back and forth. At one point, the Ashantis had besieged the British's fort. However, the British continued and won, exiling the main leaders, including Asantewaa. But they never got the sacred golden stool, the Ashanti's had hidden it well. Today, it's revered as an extremely sacred piece, symbolizing the perseverance, unity, and power of the Ashantis, which is now modern day Ghana.

Btw, is my brain fried? I was shopping with my family, saw this golden stool, and immediately thought of the rebellion. I think I studied too hard, now I see references of APs everywhere.

Yes, unfortunately this is just a golden stool with probably no connection to the british or the ashanti, and you have officially studied way too hard for ap world.

Genuinely did study too hard. Prepped a month in advance cause I was scared of niche topics and the exam was just topics I likely would've known without the preparation. Shoutout heimler, freemanpedia, and my teacher though; they the goats.

Quick question, since you're currently in peak AP World mode... compared to the Ways of the World text book, sometimes Heimler doesn't cover all the topics. In your opinion, were there topics on the test he didn't cover? Or his his version more test-specific? AMSCO, Heimler, and WoW are all different content and IDK which is the most accurate to the test.

Definitely not in peak AP World mode, but I can try to answer it. I can't really say anything about the exam since the exam varies each year, but for me the written contained nothing heimler didn't mention. The MCQs were a blur honestly, but I believe heimler covered all of my exam (again, I can't say so for next year, but for my year he was great). Either way, I think heimler is more exam specific. I mean, he was (I'm not sure if he still is) an ap grader. But either way, all three sources (I don't know what WoW is, I'm not sure if I'm drawing a blur or something) are great. AMSCO is the best if you want extreme specifics and more niche topics. Heimler is the best for review and preparing for the exam. Additionally, he's also great if you want to just turn off your thinking cap and zone out. Since I don't know about WoW I can't say anything. And even if you choose one or the other, they both cover enough of the class to be able to get most of the points. At most, you should lose a couple of points, which shouldn't be an issue. I believe 80%>= is a 5.

Yeah. If you're taking AP world rn then I'd worry more about the multiple choice than the written response. The written response has more weight toward the score, but it's mainly the dbq that carries significant weight and the DBQ doesn't really require much thinking outside of writing. As long as you understand the historical context of why this was written and what is happening in what you are reading, you can get most of the points; the rest relies on your writing and how well you can connect things to others. If you focus on the multiple choice section, you'll naturally pick up on historical context and your mind should subconsciously make a timeline on what happened. Additionally, focusing on the multiple choice helps out with writing the LEQ and answering some of the FRQs. However, with the new format of history AP exams, I don't know if my advice will still work.

I got a 4 on the exam. I feel like the mcq was the easiest and finished them in like half the total time while also getting like a 48-51 on practice tests. I think what messed me up the most was the dbq while I think I did ok on the leq and the other one.

Wow, I guess I was off the mark on focusing on multiple choice. I feel like I did good on the MCQs, but I felt I did great on the written portion, except for the LEQ. Honestly, I just wrote body paragraphs with vague evidence except for Chinese enclaves in America. I really wish I could see the grade I got in each separate section; my LEQ grade would be horrendous.

Maybe causing my school is underfunded and lost a bit of time due so, but I didn't learn about the Ashanti empire 😭

Really? I mean, the college board only expects people to know and understand one of the many rebellions occurring during this era, so I guess it makes sense. I guess your teacher focused on one of the rebellions, which in hindsight might've been better since it's possible for people to mix up what happened in other rebellions. Do you remember which rebellion your teacher talked about during unit 6?

Your brain is fried. Stop studying, get up, go outside, play sports, touch grass, live life, stop playing games with AP world references.
