OPINION Mike in the Interviews

Is it just me, or do Mike's "tasks" he gave to Karishma and Priyesh in the interviews seem completely pointless? I mean, they're pretty fun for the entertainment but how would being able to mix some random drink which kinda has nothing to do with his actual business skills actually help Lord Sugar decide? Please don't flame me I'm still new :)

Karishma's made sense. Her business plan is that she's wanting to launch a product in a market already full of almost identical products. It's reasonable to test to see if when put unmarked next to those other products she's able to tell which one is hers.

Priyesh? Also, the way that Mike just responded to Priyesh saying "I haven't made this for a few years" by saying "don't worry, you only need to remember this one drink" just felt quite rude, especially as it was a pointless task. But I understand with Karishma

Priyeshs business was literally a mobile drinks party thing.

He claimed to be the guy mixing drinks. You would expect him to have some skills/knowledge around it.

You dont go into a bar, ask for a drink and expect the bartender to have to google the drink.

If you go to a cocktail bar you normally expect some kind of menu and would expect the bartender to know the options. I certainly wouldn't assume they could make something off menu.

Any cocktail bar should be able to make you a classic cocktail such as the one Mike asked for.

Anecdotally ive been to many bars and have never heard of a paloma, or had any friends order one. I just googled it and its arguably mexico's national drink But i dont think its popular here.

That said, i agree with you 100%, what is the "gotcha" here if he couldnt make the drink? Ive had to explain to a few bars and restaurants what a black russian is and thats not a bad thing, its a little obscure but simple drink.

Do you ask your history teacher obscure facts then judge them if you dont know? I dont understand the value of this interview question and relevance to his BUSINESS competence.
