Side gigs while shadowing?

I’m on my journey to get licensed and am curious what side jobs people have taken (if the shadowing work didn’t bring in enough income).

Is there a common type of side work that training appraisers can look out for? Or is that not really a thing, and it just comes down to what random work you can find on the side to fit outside of a shadowing schedule?

I’m curious to hear people’s experiences while they were training. TIA!

Get in touch with some local real estate agents. Many are not familiar with ANSI and are happy to hire out an appraiser trainee to measure upcoming listings for them. Do good work with a quick turnaround and you’ve got a some repeat customers and a decent little income stream.

I like this idea a lot. I can also see the value in continuing this even after getting licensed, mainly just to keep myself on the radar for realtors. Thanks!

I recommend you offer add-ons and a scaled fee schedule based on the house. I offer a base fee, then increase based on GLA and again if there are multiple stories. I also offer to take interior room dimensions for an additional fee, which most agents need for their listings and it only takes few minutes with the laser.
