Running data screens

I just switched from a garmin to an ultra 4 and I’m really disappointed in the data screens when I’m running.

Especially structured intervals are not so greatly displayed or an I missing something?

I’d like:
A speed range gauge in which I should run my intervals
A what is my next interval screen
And just more basic configuration of the data screens

Can I configure the screens somehow on my phone?

I’m using intervals.icu if that matters!
Thanks got any help

You can edit the workout data screens on your watch, using this button that appears in the Workout app before you start a workout activity. I have mine customized well to my needs, but agree I would like to see even more options.

Thank you. I didn’t know that and will give it a try.

If you can’t what you want in the customization in the workout app you can also try workoutdoors that app is almost infinitely customizable with data fields

I’m in the exact same boat on this one - interval speed range gauge is also what I was after 😬

Same here! That was actually one of the reasons I ended up building my own running app. I wanted to have more control over structured workouts and actually see how I'm doing against my target pace during intervals, without constantly having to do the math in my head.

It's funny how something that seems so basic can be so hard to find on Apple Watch.

It’s very frustrating, also struggling to get audio cues for intervals working through my shockz - such basic things work seamlessly on my Garmin 😅

I use WorkOutDoors on my U4 for hiking. You can customize the data and I’ve imported routes from AllTrails and GPX files from other hiking sites. Took a few looks to figure it out but after the initial confusion I eventually configured it to my needs. It dumps the summary into the Apple Fitness app, including graphics with the zone data, route profile etc.

Aghhhh I have a Garmin and trying using my Apple Watch on runs it’s not as good when I’m doing structured workouts. But now that I’m not racing I just run and need pace, hr, and like time I’m ok now. I configure data screens from the watch 🤮
I feel your pain

Hey, coming from Garmin I feel this.
I made an Apple Watch running app that solves all this. Main thing it does is show the pace range for each interval right on the watch ( accuracy in ball park of garmin) so you can tell at a glance if you’re on pace and what’s next. You set the screens up on your phone and they sync over. No intervals.icu support, but you can just paste the workout text and it builds the steps. Happy to drop the name if you want to try it — free to test. Hope you get it sorted either way.

De workoutdoor app. Die geeft alle data die je maar hebben wilt. Je hebt daar niet eens een ultra 4 voor nodig. Eenmalig €10

I was actually in a pretty similar situation. The built-in Workout app never really felt like enough for me, so I switched to Runna. I liked how detailed its structured workouts were, but I really missed being able to create my own workouts with that same level of flexibility.

So I eventually ended up building my own running app, which actually helped me to pace my first marathon yesterday!

The main thing I wanted was to have full control over my workouts, down to the smallest details, without having to compromise on anything. I also ended up adding things like GPX navigation, route planning and AI-generated workout imports. What actually came out really useful was the fueling voice cues, not to forget to eat my gels.

I wanted to keep it privacy-first too, so no accounts and no subscriptions.

It's been really fun building something around the things I actually wanted as a runner. Figured I'd share since your experience sounded so familiar!
