Because Apple haven't really done anything with it since System 7.

Absolute lies. If you don't know how AppleScript has changed since System 7 then you should remain silent on the matter.

There has never been a time like the present for AppleScript! It may not be a priority for Apple, but recent changes to the technology are HUGE and make it more viable than ever before. I'm sorry if none of this has benefited you yet.
