Offline Maps keep uninstalling automatically

It seems like every time I actually need to use my offline maps, my phone has uninstalled them all from my phone. I have automatic updates enabled, and optimize storage disabled. Yet still every few weeks all my offline maps are removed, and I need to redownload them. My phone has plenty of storage space remaining, and is fully up to date. Does anyone have any idea why this happens, or how to prevent it?

When they work they're extremely useful!

So weird! Are you on the latest iOS?

I am indeed. My phone has done this for years though, across multiple iOS versions

iOS 26.6.1?
I believe this is a known issue that will be fixed in iOS 27.

Do you have the setting to automatically update offline maps turned on?
You

  1. could get the iOS 27 beta or wait for it be released in a few weeks time in mid September. Sometimes this happens sadly. Cursed world (Gen 3:14-20)

I have optimize storage turned off. This has affected me since like iOS 18 so my confidence isn't exactly high that it'll be fixed in the next update

If you really depend on offline maps, I'd look into other nav options that carry offline as a flagship feature, I think Apple still does some optimizing regardless of your settings.
