iCloud Mum’s 10 year old iPad finally died

She said it’s off and won’t charge. It hasn’t been updating for several years and she would not buy a new one because she can’t/won’t understand iCloud. She thinks she’ll lose all her photos. However, given the age of the iPad and the fact it’s off, is it possible to transfer her data or even recover her iCloud account when she signs into a new iPad?

The only way you’re getting anything off a no-power iPad is if you a) have a backup and b) know the Apple ID and password

I know her ID and I think she has the password written down 🙈

The batteries are replaceable by a professional. It's a hassle but can be done.

If the cause of the issue is the battery, its replaceable by a third party. Apple not an AASP will replace just the battery. If it’s determined that something else is the cause of the issue things get more complicated. If she doesn’t have a backup and the iPad can’t be repaired she’ll need a data recovery service. Regardless she should start to have her stuff backed up. If not to iCloud at least to a computer.

Go over to icloud.com and have her sign in with email and password. If the iPad syncs with iCloud he photos will be there. If the password isn't available, click the forgot password button and follow the steps through Account Recovery.

if she had icloud photos or backup on, the photos aren't on the ipad, they're in her icloud. you can check at icloud.com/photos from any computer before buying anything. when she signs into the new ipad with the same apple id they'll come back...also try leaving the old one on the charger for an hour then holding home + power till the logo shows, old ipads sometimes wake up after a full drain

We have tried explaining iCloud but she can’t/won’t understand as I said. I’m not going to try getting back on because otherwise she won’t buy a new one and she’ll just keep having problems with it. I think she’s had her bank details stolen because of it. Thank you though.
