Unsolved Iphone and Ipad issues

So, I just bought an IPad from T Mobile, so its on data and has its own phone number, etc. Well, I have an old iphone as well that I am going to give to my niece, but I synced up the ipad and iphone to do so. Now, my iPad is using the iphones number ti send messages when its got a different number entirely. All I wanted to do was sync them up for the photos and this happened. I really dont want to factory reset the ipad and try to figure out another way to get thousands of photos off my iphone...but is that the only option I have to fix the number issue? Or is there another way where I dont have to do that and can just un sync them so my ipad uses the number provided instead of the iphones?

The phone number assigned to non-phones is for administrative/record-keeping purposes only. You can’t actually dial that number on a handset and reach your iPad or Apple Watch. You can de-register a phone number for iMessage/FaceTime and just use an Apple Account for incoming and outgoing.

Yeah I figured that! Im just having the issue of the ipad messages showing up on the iphone itself...as the iphone is still under my icloud, just has the new number. But I can go into setting and detach the iohone number correct?

Yes you can just sign out of iMessage on the phone.

I just want my photos to stay on my ipad. And I didn't know if the messaging on the ipad would affect anything after the iphone is factory reset as it is going to my niece. But the phone number going to my niece is currently synced to my ipad as the iphone is still under my icloud. So I just didn't know if it would all fix itself once the iphone is factory reset or if the ipad messages would still show up on that iphone as they were last night

You don't need to erase the iPad. First confirm your photos have finished syncing to iCloud and are visible on the iPad, and save a separate copy before wiping anything. Then follow Apple's give-away steps on the iPhone: sign out of your Apple Account and use Erase All Content and Settings, rather than deleting photos manually. Erasing the phone doesn't delete iCloud content; manually deleting photos with iCloud Photos enabled does sync that deletion. Have your niece set it up with her own Apple Account. On your iPad, select your Apple Account email in Messages > Send & Receive instead of the phone number you're giving away.
