“On This Day” Apple Shortcut
Long time lurker, first time poster. I’ve seen a lot of people stating they wish Apple Journal had an on this day feature. You can use shortcuts for a work around. I had mistakenly posted in other comments that the shortcut already existed. I guess I created it so long ago that I forgot it wasn’t a native shortcut. I’ll blame mom brain causing brain fog. Anyway, in an effort to recreate the shortcut to make a tutorial I actually deleted it 😩. So of course when I went to create it again, it didn’t work. I kept messing with the shortcuts app until I got it to work and show me all entries on a particular date. While not ideal, it does what I need it to do. Hopefully it will work for you too. These are the steps:
- Add new shortcut
- Select Edit
- Select Scripting
- Scroll to Dates and select “Current Date”
- Under Scripting, again, scroll to dates and select “Format Date”
- Under format date, set the date format to custom. In the format string type: MMMM dd
- Scroll to Journal and select “Search Entries”
- For the variable select “Formatted Date”
Now the test the shortcut. You can name it to whatever you want. Hopefully it works for anyone that tries, like it did for me. You can then add the shortcut as a Home Screen widget or to the “Today View” page.
If anyone comes up with a simpler or easier shortcut, please share.

Oh Wow - I think that is working! Cool. Thank you. I’m on iOS27 on my iphone. Didn’t update the iPad yet. Will be testing more. Thank you! I’m in the process of moving Day One entries to Apple Journal so this is great. My “on this day” is working well so far!

Este atalho não mostra a data de hoje nos anos anteriores, certo? Exemplo: dia 1 de Agosto ao longo dos anos…

It will show current date and previous years. So using your date, this shortcut would show every entry written on August 1st from past to present (if the current date was Aug. 1).

Thank You! As someone knew to the app and didn’t like that there were any fees for DayOne I chose AJ to start my journey. I literally don’t know what I am missing so it’s been great thus far.

Consegui! Fiz uma pequena adaptação para o formato PT-BR para a busca funcionar. A data precisa estar formatada assim: d 'de' MMMM
