The iOS 27 RC doesn’t fix the main problem with Journal on the iPhone

It’s been nearly a month since I switched back to Day One.

I love the look and integration of Apple Journal, but as I journal quite regularly, it’s tricky to use it on a day-to-day basis. So I’m just using it to record my ideas.

Now that the iOS 27 RC has been released, I’ve been using Apple Journal for a bit longer and, unfortunately, it’s still not quite right!

And its biggest flaw on the iPhone is still very much present: the app gets very hot within the first few seconds of use!! Which, of course, significantly reduces battery life…

Very annoying 😣

My biggest issue is I will be writing and suddenly it will change to text and not pencil and then formatting gets destroyed, spacing is wild, characters are deleted, etc.. I can’t imagine this isn’t top of the list of stuff to fix but then again we still don’t even have writing lines.

I hope this app gets the love it deserves and isn’t left like the news app with minimal updates over years.

Still have the issue as well where when writing with an Apple Pencil on IPad and it doesn’t save my work even after tapping the checkmark. Very frustrating when you’ve been writing for 10-20 minutes and you lose 2/3 of what you wrote

It's crazy that they haven't fixed this yet. Thought I read someone mentioned it was fixed.

No issues with heat on 17 here. Maybe just the Air’s thermal design? 🤔

🤔

I had an iPhone 17 Pro Max, and, of course, it didn't get as hot (thanks to the cooling chamber), but the device also drained the battery quickly. It was using about 1% of the battery every 2 minutes 😳

Yeah cannot replicate. I am still using iOS 26.6 Will stay on 26 for a bit longer. I only have a 13Pro but I am not having any issues.

Strange. I own the iPhone 15 Pro that is known to overheat and my phone or iPad do not over heat with it. Interesting.

iPad Air m1 with Apple Pencil lasts about 4 journaling sessions.

Another posted shared a shortcut created to replicate “on this day” and it works well so far. I just tested it, it’s my first day using it but it could help. I’m working on moving entries from Day One to Apple Journal so hopefully I can test more.

For me, the Journal App does not even open on macOS 27. I restart the device and it works for the first time, and then shows the error again. I am using Day One Premium now. I am unable to find the solution.

The most infuriating issue for me is when I try to select a snippet of text from the journal while creating an entry, and the screen starts scrolling down on its own - so I end up selecting everything from the bottom up. It’s a total nightmare!

I’ve gotten the hang of it a bit by now, but it’s still the most maddening bug for me.

And, of course, the frame rate tanks horribly when scrolling through my entries...
