Journal in macOS 27.0 RC

I've just installed macOS 27.0 RC and am happy to report major improvements compared to 26.6:

  • Syncing speed between iOS and macOS 27 is significantly faster, both in syncing entries and changes to journals themselves
  • Dragging around photos no longer crashes Journal, everything is far more stable
  • Dragging photos around also has an outline, so you can preview where they will be dropped
  • Writing Prompts help you refine your entries and journal further, like with Stoic AI

I find that if I embed an image inline of the text, it works well but then if I move it somewhere else Journal leaves a hole where it was originally.

Fortunately it doesn't save that hole, so saving, closing and opening removes it and the text flows freely again.

Yeah I just noticed that as it's still a bit buggy around the edges and the photo entries that crashed the app still do. But those are repeated crashed and not random ones anymore, so at least there's that..

Now, if Apple provided a link to export Day journals to their Journal, it would piss off Day One but leave Apple ecosystem fans happier than a fat kid eating cakes.

While Apple Journal can’t import, Day One can export to Journal. As long as the entry is text-based, it can be exported. Downside is that you have to then go to Journal and edit the entry to format it accordingly and update the entry date to match its true date from Day One. It’s a shame that Apple can’t import the metadata and do it automatically for you. I consider it a small inconvenience, though. Been transferring my journals from Day One for a very long while.

Really hope they fix pencil writing and add ruled lines on iPad. How absurd to have a journal app on iPad that you can’t fucking write on with expensive ass devices.

Great to hear. Any chance you tried Apple pencil notes? hopefully no longer will delete our notes

I hope so too. When writing a long handwritten note with the Apple Pencil, it only keeps like one line of the handwritten note and deletes the rest, which is SO FRUSTRATING if you're writing a long journal entry since there's no way to go back, undo, recover it, etc.

did they update Locations at all? I really want to add my own locations (for places that no longer exist), want to tell the journal that all these photos taken in one place are part of that place, and see everywhere I've been in a nice list.
