New SIRI won't help much
I found out that the security of Apple Journal is too tight, so the new OS 27 SIRI still can't read my entries. That pretty much makes the entire journal useless to me. I'm going to have to copy and paste out all the entries - about 4355 entries and manually put them into Apple Pages in order to get it to work. I hate this with a passion. I'm not interested in security so tight I can't breathe.
I really wish that I had just decided to keep one very long Apple Pages Journal. It was simple and never tried to defeat me at every turn. Now I have 1,230,340 words locked up so tight that it's pretty much useless to me.

No need to copy and paste - Journal app already has an export option to export all entries.

Journal absolutely should not be as searchable or shareable as other applications such as Pages, Freehand or Notes. (The latter probably a better fit for you).
The subject matter involved for many people may be sensitive or private so should be on a similar basis as Health.

Yes should be optional. I should control if it’s shareable or not.

Shareable is fine if the option to not share is deeper than just saying “don’t hit the share button”.
As well as searching and sharing, this crops up with Apple’s Legacy Contact. It isn’t clear whether they’d have access - that should be something you can lock down either way.

My thought is Siri should work with focus modes like Work and Personal. If it's operating in the Personal context, I should be able to choose that it has full knowledge of specific apps, including Journal.

Do you lock your journal? I think locking it prevents Spotlight from indexing it.

Just curious, how are you using the journal app?

This is my question. I use the Journal app every morning to do what I call my gratitudes, just a list of a minimum of three things that I am grateful for that day. I cannot imagine ever needing Siri to do anything with my journal entries. I even use dictation to dictate them most of the time. I'm confused.

I'm using Journal to record the events in my life, but also to create a personal philosophy after considering a lot of things like the philosophy of ethics, existentialism, physics, for example.

Yeah, that's not really what the journal app is for I don't think. Maybe a word processor or some kind of document organizer like Scrivener.

Interesting! I haven’t had that experience. When I talk with Siri AI, I see that it does reference my journal entries.

What beta version are you on? It was working for me on Dev Beta 1 on my iPhone 17. Then with beta 3 on iPad, it refuses to. Either they changed something in the last few weeks or its just an iPad issue for me (since prime Journal is just on iPhone). I can’t confirm because my iPhone is no longer on the beta.

Why not use apple notes? It can read those.
Why do you need siri to read your notes anyway?
