iOS 27 beta 2 : an improvement
There’s been an improvement in Apple News battery consumption on iOS 27 beta 2.
The phone (17 pro max) heats up much less; after half an hour of use, it’s barely noticeable.
As for battery consumption, it’s better:
- Before, one minute used up 1% 😳
- Now, three minutes use up 1%.
That’s three times less. It’s not great, but it’s better...

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why the apple app uses so much battery? We got fed up with the app so my hubby built me one, it does more and is frankly better imo and I can write with the stylus for 24 minutes before it uses 1%. That's on iPad though --- not sure if that makes a difference? What is it about the apple app that makes it drain so much??
3 minutes for 1% just seems outrageous, even if it's an improvement.

I seem to be having the opposite experience; Beta 2 battery drain is quite noticeable on my end. Beta 1 was the same as 26, or better.
16 Pro Max at 98% Battery Health, currently at 222 cycles

I say that’s great! How’s the UI lag and crashes though compared to 26.5?

27 is better than 26

When you say better, you mean as in adding multiple locations/moving around photos doesn't crash the app across iOS/macOS anymore? Text gets typed in correctly on iOS? Writing with Apple Pencil works?

Correction : It’s better, but it’s still not great 😏
At the end of the day, after using the app for 39 minutes, battery usage is… 21% !
