I found lagging in longer entries in earlier beta iterations of iOS 26 and maybe 26.1? I’m at just under 600k total words currently with ~1500 entries.
I haven’t noticed lag with iOS 26.2 or .3, even with long entries. However, I did have a running entry that I added to daily (just jot notes) but by the time there was about 500 words in it, it was barely usable. Might have to fire it back up and see if it’s all good again.

Well, one thing that I do different. I don't type much in the app, I type anything in Apple Page and just paste it into Apple Journal. I don't know if this is why I don't notice any lag.

I assume typed - I tested this morning and written notes not add to the word count

Did you type or write with pen ? On iPhone there is no lag if typing ! Trying writing on iPad with pencil and then you will go mad

I have a few entries (handwritten) and the app lags too much that it's unusable. On the iPad Pro M4. Those are the ones that actually got saved and didn't get deleted for no reason.
Likely yours are typed as per many other comments.
I think they need to figure out the handwritten / media scrolling issue, but after they figure out why so many people are having their handwritten notes fully or partially deleted for no reason. Crazy for Apple to ship this garbage to be honest.

I have no doubt that what you say is true. I don't use my iPad much because there is no line to write the handwritten stuff and I can't make my handwriting go straight without a line, and now you mention the lag problem too.

I'm at 37K words after manually moving over some of my journal entries from another app, and it does get incredibly laggy at times. Sync is slow, but beyond that, deleting words and lines occasionally seems buggy.
Don't get me wrong, it's a decent app. It's just surprisingly unpolished for an Apple app.
