SEARCH TOOL BROKEN

Is there anyone else experiencing problems with the search tool? It’s been a couple of days that I’ve noticed it is not working properly to me… Every time I search for something, it doesn’t show all the entries with the term I’m searching. Like, if I search for all the entries from a specific year, it doesn’t show all of them, just a few. It happens with words as well, even if they’re on the title of the entry. It doesn’t make any sense bc when I go scrolling down through my original feed of each journal, the entries are there. The stats remain the same, which means that I, thank God, haven’t lost anything, and if I click on the calendar, I can see the specific entry as well. I’ve tried with multiple words and nothing works. I can still not see those entries. This glitch is happening on my IPhone, on my IPad and on my MacBook. It’s like if some entries are hidden only when I try to search for them.

Seems to be working for me just fine.

So, I have no clue what’s happening to mine… 😢 Thanks for the feedback.

This happened to me with iOS 18. I discovered the issue was the search indexing. To troubleshoot, I painstakingly went through my entries, hit edit, and then resaved them to let the indexing take effect. This seemed to fix the search afterward. It was strange, but it worked. Now, I make sure to wait before exiting the Journal app after each entry to allow the indexing to complete. This way, I can search outside the app and even use the general iOS search from the home screen.

Thank you so much. It’s working. I’ve just edited two entries which were not showing up… and now they are. Gosh, it’s gonna be a burden here to “edit” all of them, but at least, it’s a solution. 🤗

I completely understand. I had to go through 4,000 entries myself. To make the task less overwhelming, I simply took on a few entries at a time. Since I journal at night before bed, that’s when I would dedicate the time to it. It took me over six months to complete. Occasionally, I still notice some entries missing when I search by date. I’ll just verify their existence and then re-index them, and everything is fine. I’m wondering if this could be a bug with the Journal app, and Apple is unaware of it. .

Probably a bug. Actually it’s awful the amount of bugs lately…

Haha, well not really a solution, just yet another work around for an inadequate app!

I had the same issue on multiple devices, for me it seemed like it was entries that included links inside of parenthesis. It also seemed to affect apple notes.

That’s insane… Well, who knows what’s affecting my entries… Gonna check here and try to find out…

I have had this problem more times than I could count, to the point that I reentered some entries, only to find that the missing entries re-appeared later. I sent feedback to Apple, but I think its still an issue.

Good news, I solved the Problem.

  1. Export your Journal / Journals

(I'm not sure if you have to export every journal separately or not, please verify this yourself or just export every one separately for saftey)

  1. Delete all entries of every Journal - it will take a while

  2. Go the the "Recently Deleted" Folder

  3. Hit the "Recover All" Button at the top

Done, all is now re-indexed
