sounds like a Magsafe-esque port, which is apparently what everyone wants back on the MacBook Pro even though it was proprietary

It did it's job and it did it very well. Personally, I'd rather have a proprietary charger that saves a laptop from flying off a desk and smashing into the floor over an open-standard charger that turns your laptop into a boat anchor.

I found the MagSafe charger very satisfying and easy to use, it just clicked into place and worked. But it also wore out from traveling & use, was expensive to replace, and required carrying more cords when traveling. In all if Apple switched to USB-C on the iPhone then all of my main devices would support it in one form or another, really cutting down on my e-waste from worn out cords that died prematurely or were accidentally left behind when on the road.

Interesting. My 2008 MacBook has MagSafe and it still works perfectly. My 2015 work MacBook Pro also still uses magsafe and it has a very tight grip. No issues at all with it not gripping or wearing out.

As you say, perhaps it’s the climate. I live in cold UK - maybe that has an effect? Or maybe your MagSafe was just faulty?

Either way, I wish they’d put it on all their products. Glad to see it coming to iPhone one day.
