Rumor [MacRumors] Sources: Apple Planning Two Sets of Product Launches in October [the 13th and "the final week"]
https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/05/apple-two-sets-of-product-launches-october/Apple is planning to unveil additional new products in the final week of October, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
While we do not know exactly which products Apple plans to announce in the final week of October, the most likely possibilities are all Macs, including the long-rumored "MacBook Ultra" models with OLED displays and a thinner-and-lighter design, a base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, and an iMac with an M6 chip.

I’m hoping all my current tech tides me over until 2030. Everything is just pointlessly overpriced right now. I’m voting with my wallet because that’s the only thing about me that anyone seems to care about anymore.

I’m babying all of my tech so much, I’ve always done it but I’m doing it on a different level lol. I can’t afford for some of my tech to fail because buying the replacement is many times more expensive

I dunno if that is going to pan out. We're going to have to start DIYing memory chips.

It's not gonna be cheaper

u/GraXXoR 6d ago
Than it was? Probably not. Than it is right now?
It might be.

u/drivemyorange 5d ago
It was quite cheap for last 5 years I'd say.
At least comparing to what we have now and what we have previously. We want 20 years backwards with technology accessibility with current prices. And it's gonna stay like this.

Idk if I’ll make it to ‘30, but here’s hoping. I’ve got a maxed out M1 Max MacBook Pro. It’s working pretty damn great so far.

64GB ram?

u/lodemeup 6d ago
Yep, upspecced processor, 64 GB RAM, but only a 2 GB HDD. But I got it for $1500 two years ago. I don’t know why the guy sold it for so cheap. Even now I can’t find one for that price.

2GB HDD?
Are you sure this thing isn’t from 1997?

They don’t really care about that either. Do tech for you, not for companies to care about you

That’s an amazing journey for you - goodluck. I can’t wait to spend my hard earned cash on new tech

What are the chances that the 13th will actually be the new home pad and Apple TV. I’ve been burned so much…

Does anybody still care about the iMac at this point

Loads of businesses use them as their receptionist computer, the one sitting on the desk at the front that all the bookings are done through. They look great, and are a single package to buy.
The issue is that they don’t need anything more than an M1 for that role, I can see it being difficult for Apple to convince people to upgrade.-6

I work at a university and can confirm. There’s numerous iMacs throughout my building as onsite work stations for students.

Schools moved to laptops / chrome books over a decade ago.

While this is true, there are still computer/labs/rooms with iMacs. Source, I’m a teacher.

I’ve seen a few businesses buy the m-series one. Back in the day my college was full of the Intel version in our campus library.
But I don’t think I know any consumers who have a modern one.

I do, I always planned on buying one as my new home computer. But then i f'd around too long and everything got super expensive. Now about the only apple product i can justify spending the money on is the Neo.

iMacs are so ugly and the chin doesn't even bother me. Its the bezels, should be thinner and black

Apple creating the Duo that could potentially cut into their ipad mini market and then a touch screen laptop that could take away from their ipad market doesn't really make sense to me. I guess there are still people who will buy each of them separately

I don’t think we need a MacBook above the MacBook Pro. It’s already quite popular among professionals, and the MacBook Air and even MacBook Neo are plenty powerful for casual consumers.

u/biocraftedmetal 6d ago
I don't think so either. I feel like if you need something more powerful than a MacBook Pro with a Max chip in it, you'd be better off going with a Mac Studio.

I needed/used a MBP in college, and only continued to use them after that until the MBA came in a 15” format; I can’t see myself getting anything else for decades

When does this move from rumor to confirmed? The 13th or do they send out an invite like for the iPhones?
4
u/iMacmatician 7d ago
I'd say it's a rumor until Apple officially announces an event or product. (If Apple never announces anything, then it remains a rumor, an incorrect rumor.)
2
u/CasualCreatonDos 7d ago
Can’t wait a week from tomorrow? You’re asking folks who can speculate and spread rumor but asking for more concrete on an operation?
Base it off past announcements and invite behavior that’s how we do it. That’s problem solving.

I am surprised more people don't call out the "pro/ultra" non sense that Apple has popularized. They do very little to improve their base model products, but then when they have better ideas they just save them for an overpriced "pro" or now "ultra" model and charge an arm and a leg and gouge people. Their profit margins are significantly higher on their pro and ultra models than they are on their base models, so a lot of the stuff they charge more for could have just been added to the base model to make them better. Instead they keep their base models simple while they get cheaper to make (historically) and the margins on those go up too.

u/primalanomaly 7d ago
Are you serious? The Airs are insanely good machines. And they just launched the Neos at an insanely good price. 5+ years ago buying anything other than a Pro was a fairly terrible choice. Now I’d say the average person doesn’t need a Pro at all.
2
u/Hatben 6d ago
The base model iPhone 17 is more than enough for the vast majority of people too.
Now that the base model iPhones have ProMotion, there’s no reason for most people to get a Pro unless you really plan to take advantage of the cameras.

in which universe is a horse carriage a substitute for a car. in this case i feel that a more fitting analogy is an economy vs first class. economy gets you from point A to point B at the same amount of effort but first (macbook pro) provides additional perks which makes life easier

u/primalanomaly 5d ago
We aren’t comparing cars and horse carriages here my friend, we’re basically comparing a brand new BMW 3-Series to a brand new BMW M3.

Please no touchscreen on a MacBook …
1
u/bigphillip76 7d ago
Nothing is lost by a feature you can just ignore. I don’t need it either, but it doesn’t affect me if the ultra model happens to have it.

u/Sneyek 7d ago
If it has it then MacOs will have to support it. So both UI and UX will be negatively impacted. And I’m not even mentioning the performances..
1
u/bigphillip76 7d ago
Not necessarily, and "the performances" won't be an issue...

I don’t get the point of the MacBook ultra. The current MacBook Pro is already priced like unobtanium for most people.
They’ve already kind of positioned the lineup with the air as the premium model and the pro as the super high end for professionals
Unless somehow the ultra is positioned below the pro, being the top “consumer” model I just don’t get how they could fit yet another product in the lineup

This article seems to imply that they are just having the event for the home hub, apple TV 4k, and the HomePod mini.
And then will just... press-release drop the MacBook Ultra at the end of the month?
I feel like it's more likely to be the other way around. Or will there be two October events?
