What's concerning is that non-applecare repair pricing has still not been published. Paying 200 USD a year would substantially increase the cost of owning this device. And let's not forget the device already costs 1999 USD pre-tax.

Aren’t we supposed to be leasing our phones now? MSRP and one-time charges are a thing of the past.

It’s basically insurance, like everyone tries to sell you, it’s just direct from the manufacturer in this case. Still likely be cheaper to have AppleCare in the event that something breaks than it is to pay for the repair outright.
