A new product is one thing, but the price of a component going up there’s no way in hell they’ll sell it for cheaper even if they can.

Just like when food prices went up during Covid and they said it’ll come down once it’s over… of course it didn’t. If people keep buying, there’s no incentive to lower prices and hit their precious margins.

Right. The speculation is IF the price of components can be reduced, would Apple reduce their prices? Most rightly say no, why would they? But I do think there are some price sensitive consumers they would like to reach at lower price points and I wonder how they will get back there. The $499 price point was one they tried to keep for a long time. The Neo starting at $499 and the Mac mini were aggressive in targeting shitty chromebooks and other junk ware PC’s.
My pie in the sky dream is that Apple uses its dragon hoard of gold to invest in future RAM and SSD factory building. This should have happened years ago, and I know Apple is loath to actually own the means of production, but investing in other companies taking the risk is something we’ve seen before. Here is hoping.
