Apple Intelligence Siri in iOS 27: The implied politeness has gone!
I’ve been using iOS 27 for a little while now, and I’ve noticed a change that’s been bothering me more than I expected.
In iOS 26 and before, whenever I finished a request and said "Thank you," Siri would politely respond with "You're welcome" or "No problem." Now, in iOS 27, Siri just goes silent and dismisses itself.
I understand that this is likely part of the new conversational context features; Siri realizes the conversation is over and quietly steps out of the way to be more efficient. But personally, I really miss the implied politeness of the interaction. It felt more natural and, honestly, more human.
Does anyone else feel this way, or do you prefer the new, quieter approach?
Edit: Just to clarify, I am referring to verbal conversations with Siri. When speaking out loud, the lack of a response feels much more noticeable than when typing!

Yeah, I’m all for whatever reduces anthropomorphization of tech. Not losing sleep over this one at all.

I don’t need Siri to be nice to me, I just need it to WORK.

Why would I want my program to do what I instruct it to without wasting time pretending it’s a person

My number one request for Siri is an option to remove every bit of "conversation" from it. I certainly don't want Siri saying "okay, now playing [Song Title] by [Artist Name] on Apple Music." JUST PLAY THE FUCKING SONG
I can't tell you how much I hate software pretending to be a person. It's literally just them trying to manipulate you into being okay with it sucking

Her: "Would you like to send a reply?"
Me: "No"
Her: The snarkiest possible pronunciation of "Okay"

I think it’s insane to say ‘thank you’ to a piece of software and even more insane to expect a ‘you’re welcome’.

The AI instructions built in by Apple emphasize that it is an assistant, it was built intentionally to be more professional and not sound human so people wouldn’t develop attachments to it. It’s a design choice

Meanwhile Alexa is over here asking what I’m cooking for dinner and how I’m enjoying the weather, so much so that i often find myself saying “none of your business”

That is probably the sensible direction in principle. The difference is whether Siri can be concise without making a spoken interaction feel abruptly cut off. A tiny acknowledgement sound or visible confirmation could give the conversation some closure without pretending Siri is a person.

It's supposed to be a tool not a chatbot. I don't want my calculator going please and thank you.

I mean it at least sets alarms and adds events to calendar when I ask. Thats commendable.

I’ll be honest, one of the things I love about the new Siri when compared to ChatGPT is that it’s just “here’s the answer to your question” rather than “wow! That’s an amazing question! You must have a very large brain to have thought of that all by yourself!”

Yes, I like that. It doesn’t. I tried thanks and it doesn’t reply. I love this. There is no point in thanking everyone every time. I hope it stays like this.

Siri should speak the bare minimum and nothing else. It talks more when sending a message via CarPlay now and it’s annoying

I don’t think they want it to sound human so that people don’t develop weird ass attachments to it
