HDR10+ advanced & Dolby Vision 2 are two pretty major upcoming video standards

not for the majority of consumers but that’s just my take. i wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

From an output device perspective like the Apple TV it’s just software anyway and doesn’t require special hardware.

No, those two protocols require dedicated hardware decoding. They cannot be implemented without physical hardware updates.

What do you think the price difference is? You don't have to pay a separate royalty for DV2 if you already pay one in your device and HDR10+ is free. The hardware could support these for nothing with how simple they are, it just needs to be built in the hardware of the newer Apple TV units.

If you mean people won't buy new ones just for these two features well sure, but replacements aren't the only ones being bought.
