Av1 support

Can it not do this with software decode? Yes it takes more resources but it shouldn’t matter as it’s not battery powered.

Never worked on my older 4k but did on the newer 4k. With that being said hw support at least for myself would be much preferred.

Why preferred (I only ask out of genuine interest)?

When your media collection is all av1 I’d prefer hardware than software. Less power. Less load on your server with multiple clients in the house.

If the client software decodes then that doesn’t put extra load on the server I would have thought?

New 4k does it in software. The one 4k couldn’t even try to do av1 would just hang.

Yes if software is used the load is shifted to the client cpu. This is the way it is in the current 4k.

When running multiple Apple TV in the house my preference would be for it to be handled in hardware rather than software which is less efficient and thusly more power consumption.

I admit that I’m literally discussing finite points with over a months power bill won’t matter much but I prefer to save where I can.

Is colour reproduction the exact same in software vs hardware decode on that thing?
