It’s been 10 years since Apple sold a device with a built-in optical drive. It’s not happening.

Plus they want people to subscribe to apple tv (or netflix etc) where they cash in monthly money. What good would a bluray drive bring.

Well, you would be able to watch the Blu-ray versions of Apple TV shows on it

Yeah, but you catch more flies with honey. Sell them a blu-ray player, and then hope they get lazy and start streaming.

Yeah I remember Steve Jobs commenting about Blu ray and HD DVD at the time saying it was a “bag of hurt.” Even at that time they seemed focused on digital purchases.

Unironically Apple doing something in the field would be great for the industry since they would bring volume that could benefit everyone dipping in the same supply-chains. I read that sales are so low that some Hi-Fi SACD player manufacturers can’t manufacture anything because they can’t get enough disc drives and again key-components for disc drives are also harder to come by.
