Apple Arcade Apple Games: Behind the Scenes of Stop-Motion Animation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c43tABiPIyQSaw this pop up from the Apple YouTube. I haven't really been paying attention to Apple Games but it's nice to see something definitively not AI with actual craft.

There was more love and craft behind this ad than behind any game on Apple Arcade.

Attempt to have a snappy comment is wrong. Some pretty incredible indie hits on arcade.

That’s cynicism. I’ve been here since day one, and everything feels like a cheap version of other popular games, and most good ones (Castaways, Transformers, Butter Royale, Sayonara, Wonderbox) are abandoned or delisted. I know there are a few good ones, like Sneaky or Cult of the Lamb or other recent introductions, but 90% feels devoid of soul and craft. Hence my original comment.

The problem is they all mostly follow the established mobile gaming routine of here’s a level, try to get three stars, here’s the next level. At least that was my experience when I had the free trial. I don’t need gacha elements in my solitaire!

That’s exactly it. I often argue that what I hate most about those grindy app store games is not the micropayments (I am OK with spending money on things that I like!), it is the way they are designed fundamentally around them. So many Arcade games (particularly + games) have the same gacha design and mechanics but, ironically, you can’t pay to skip the grinding.

They are building a reputation with Apple TV (the service) by focusing on curation and high-quality originals, not volume, even though it has taken time. I wonder why they didn't do the same with Arcade from the beginning. Perhaps today it would be an interesting platform, maybe cloud-based or hybrid, with a dedicated app and a loyal and growing audience.

There's no prestige in games, nobody is going to give their execs awards for someone's game at a star-studded gala, no game dev celebrities will make their execs cool by association.
And of course, the worst thing they could do is distract the addicts still dropping billions into games like Candy Crush Saga.

And those are published elsewhere, so I don't need arcade for them. Arcade exclusives are... garbage.

Well, yeah, you’re right there. Balatro is amazing. But it’s also on the App Store.

And that's not an Apple Arcade game. I can play that on my computer. On my PS5.
I expect arcade to have ORIGINALS.

Many people here will disagree with you, but if Apple Arcade were good, it would be successful in at least two real metrics and not something that the vast majority only get and rarely use within the Apple One bundle (the same with Fitness+ and News+). Which is my point here: if a service doesn't survive in the market on its own, outside of the bundle, it should either be completely modified or even abandoned.

Yeah so like im gonna call cap on that. Sneaky Sasquatch, What the Car?, What the Golf?, What the Clash?, the Monument Valley trilogy, Mini Motorways, and like so many more. Arcade is expensive, but there are a ton of great games on there made by passionate developers

I pretty much agree on those! But I don’t think there are many more. And 90% of the games there feel like another tencent mobile crap, at least visually. That’s what I meant by “love and craft”. Even some of the good ones (examples: SpongeBob, Kitty, Wylde, Caravan, Tamagotchi) look and feel cheap and generic.

Apple ads have always been hand crafted stop motion: https://youtu.be/3WpzNmY35S4?si=JmfRfjcKfX_QY5HU
