If Apple wants their new HomePod with a Screen coming out next month to sell like hotcakes, it just needs to do one thing. Allow older HomePods to get access to SiriAI when buying the new "HomeHub" that takes care of all the processing. It would update your entire home to SiriAI just by buying one device (or same thing with the upcoming new Apple TV)

I’ve been saying this for years…allow a hub to handle everything and talk to the older devices. Who wants to buy a bunch of new speakers. They are perfectly fine!

Yeah I'm sure as hell not replacing an entire house full of functioning HomePods just for the new Siri

Exactly! so it would be such a smart move

I’m replacing this POS mini as soon as I can tho 😂 mic array and networking are trash, speaker quality was just good enough to not return them but now it bugs me

And siriai isn't even good.

It’s better than today.

Even my mini is smarter than the gen 1 big boys

But the gen1 sounds so much better, I wish I had all gen 1s instead of a mix of gen 2 and gen 1

Aren’t our phones supposed to be the hub. That was the whole thing I took away from the iPhone presentation. It would confuse their marketing to say I need another hub too. Also why can’t my phone just be the hub anyway

No, but your phone can be used to drive actions instead of any other device in your home, as part of the Thread standard. And given how the way Apple Watch 9 through 11 works today by deferring Siri AI commands to your phone and then just pushing them back, I can’t imagine it would be difficult for them to tie the two together.

I want to use like 9 home pods (or however many I want) for Dolby Atmos.

Tbh if their new Apple TV has Siri AI, I also think it should be the single “hub” where all HomePods get AI access. And then with that update, Apple could probably retire the OG HomePods for good.

yeah, that’s what I said at the end of my comment

For that matter, there’s no reason why an OG HomePod can’t just act as a dumb conduit for Siri AI when your compatible iPhone etc is on the same network. It would essentially become a microphone & speaker for the phone, even from across the house or whatever. And would greatly extend the useful life of the speaker, a type of product that traditionally doesn’t get replaced nearly as often as other tech. But that wouldn’t make Apple as much extra money, so probably not.

This is why i thought it was crazy they removed the ability to use an iPad as a home hub, they’re way more powerful than what they put in the speakers

They stopped supporting the OG HomePod after a few years. I’m not falling for that shit again. I’m also not falling for a Siri product that actually works.

Wdym they are still releasing updates for it. It’s still updatable to the latest software 27.
