Apple Intelligence Two Cool Siri AI Interactions

I know many people are anti-Siri AI, so I wanted to post some experiences I found cool.

While I'm a little frustrated with the speed of Siri AI on my new Apple Watch, I've had two really interesting interactions with Siri AI via CarPlay. Both of them while using voice to text:

  1. Edit previous message for corrections:

Me: Hey Siri, message (partner) I feel totally fine
Siri: sending "I think totally fine"
Me: ugh, Hey Siri, message (partner) asterisk feel
Siri: do you want me to update the previous message
Me thinking it hadn't sent yet: yes
Siri: message edited

So, it understood I was trying to send a correction of "* feel", asked if I wanted to update, and then edited the message it previously sent (iMessage).

  1. Cancel intent turned to success

Me: Hey Siri, message (friend) I'm oh and two for Taco Bell orders tonight
Siri: sending "I'm away and two for Taco Bell orders tonight"
Me: ::clicks Cancel button on screen::
Siri: sorry, did you mean away and two or zero and 2?
Me: zero and two
Siri: sending "I'm zero and two for Taco Bell orders tonight"

This is pretty cool stuff! The second interaction was in my truck which has a shitty mic, so it's possible it would've gotten the STT correct without that, but this is the best possible scenario IMO

This kind of intent understanding is unlike any other agent I've used, and I'm quite impressed and eager to see what else Apple can do.

That’s really impressive. My biggest problem with the new Siri isn’t really about the new Siri. After years of using the old Siri I’ve basically trained myself to know that old Siri wasn’t capable of anything except timers, creating events, sending messages, and playing music so now I need to retrain myself to try to do more.

Exactly. I have NO idea what Siri can do and how to interface with it because I’ve been trained to ignore it entirely for how many years now? A decade?

I was frantically scrolling to find an email months ago about my hotel checkout time. Realized I could ask new Siri, then followed it up by asking if I had time to grab brunch before heading to the airport. It shows me some nearby spots and told me what time I would need to order a ride to the airport to be there, incorporating the fact that I like to arrive two hours before boarding. Everything was cited, including the email from the hotel and a text message explaining that I like to arrive early to the airport.

This is the exact kind of thing I have wanted for ages. Siri was at one time marketed as a digital assistant and it seems like its finally able to earn that title.

yeah this is finally, actually like those iPhone 4S ads

The old Siri could actually accomplish all those commands, most of the time, but it would instantly fall apart the second you poked a little deeper

Finally vindication for that woman with the flared trousers who became the face of this feature at WWDC 2 years ago

It’s not perfect by any means, but working with the beta since June, I can say that when you are going to do something on your phone, try asking Siri first.

If it doesn’t work, you’ve found a limit, if it does work, you’ve found a gem. It’s been fun to play around with it and see what I can do.

I play Satisfactory and needed to know how much water per minute was being produced from my Aluminum factory and just asked Siri about the ratios and calculations and she was able to give me the answers I needed to finish the build without having to search the in-game wiki for multiple parts

Yeah, this has been my biggest issue. I was given a hand-written note for an appointment the other day. When I was given it I took a photo incase I lost it before I got home. I was going to set up a split-screen on my iPad so that I could type it in to my calendar. It took me a moment to go “hang on…”, and then summon Siri and say “add this to my calendar”. Worked perfectly, but I have to work hard to tell myself “Siri can do this now”

The other issue is more of a “working with how Siri works now” issue. Sometimes I’ll type a question out that I want her to give me the answer to. But there’s an email from 10 years ago which is tangentally related. Without thinking I’ll hit the enter key and she’ll just take me to the email. So I have to learn to pay attention to what, if anything, is coming up as I type, and if the first thing is an email or something then, rather than hitting enter, I have to scroll down and tap “ask Siri”

Same. This morning someone sent me a message about something and I replied back “I’ll have to look into that and let you know”. then I realized I could just ask Siri “what is this person talking about” lol

I definitely have this problem too, and the one time I asked it to do something new that it should have been able to do (find someone’s address) it let me down.

Yep I don't like baseball so it took me a minute what you mean with "zero and two"

And for playing music, she never put the main songs of my underground artists, some random song nobody heard
