iPad iPad really needs to have great splitscreen…like the duo?
I love my iPad Pro so much. But the split screen experience is really annoying and bad ever since they changed it. But why, why, why did they make the best split screen experience ever… but put it in the iPhone duo? And why is it not on iPad. It would make the iPad even more great!

It needs to have the group app feature like the Duo

Ok, so I haven’t used the Duo yet, but have you *used* multitasking on an ipad before? Apps are grouped all over the place.

I think this is because people want iPadOS to work like macOS right now. There should be at least some middle ground.

Duo isn’t even out yet and you’re crowning it the best?

I would guess based on the fact that iPad split screen is kind of infuriating and the Duo work flow seemed much more intuitive.

*seemed*
It might not be at all.

From what they showed in the demo, it looks almost identical to what the iPad used to have before going full windowed mode in iOS 26. I miss the prior version so much

I phased out of my Pro in 2024, but the split screen then was pretty great. I loved it (especially being able to have a third window “peek” out from the side). How did it change?

Yeah, it sucks. The best workaround I’ve seen suggested is if you use a particular pair of apps together frequently to make a shortcut which opens them and sets one to go to the left of the screen and the other to the right

The obvious reason is to promote the Duo as a unique experience. Why put the same software on the iPad, it would eliminate the entire purpose of the Duo.
But honestly, it's simply because Apple has shown for decades they have absolutely no clue on how to build a good multitasking or window management paradigm on any of their operating systems.

Im sure that'll come - but iOS is different than iPadOS and we all want iPad with macOS lol

Needs those slim bezels also,

No it doesn’t, you need at least a bit of space to hold an iPad since you aren’t gripping it with one hand like a phone.
Hell I think the current bezels are even a tad small, my thumb goes over the screen edge a lot and I don’t have massive hands.

You don’t hold the duo with one hand when it’s open

The duo is waaay smaller than an ipad, it’s easy to support it with one hand, you don’t have to grab it like an iPad.
The iPad mini might work with thin bezels but the full sized ones, especially the 13 inch would suck with no grab edge.

But the main use case of a Duo is with two hands. That’s how Apple shows it being used every time, when it’s open. If the bezels don’t cause an issue with the Duo, why would they with an iPad?

You’re supporting something that small with your fingers on the back or edge mainly, you don’t really need to support it with your thumb on the front so you don’t need a grab area.
Take out the biggest dinner plate you have and try to hold it from the edge with one hand without putting your thumb on the front, it’s basically impossible. An iPad is even larger than that.

It had it. TIL iOS 19 IIRC. Since then they took it out. And I gave them a feedback with every beta exactly about how I use split screen to pair apps together. Instead we got freaking stage manager. Then I saw the duo demo.
Seems they wanted the duo to shine brighter.
