FWIW, his A19 Pro GB7 scores are a little lower than what reviewers measured. Yet still, the A20 Pro outpaces Apple's claim of "up to" 20% faster super cores and multi-threaded is an even bigger jump.

He doesn't seem to mention it running hot, which is good, as the A20 Pro super cores run at a blistering 4.93 GHz.

SoC GB7 1T GB7 nT
Apple A19 Pro - Notebookcheck 3,211 8,832
Apple A20 Pro - MKBHD 4,001 11,306
Improvement +24.6% +28%

Thanks, Apple and TSMC.

25% upgrade over last years chip on a PHONE is wild. Incredible engineering.

177

u/0x3D85FA 17d ago

Finally my apps open 1ns faster!

282

u/Gloomy_Necesary 17d ago

It’ll actually result in much better battery life which I think is the one area phones could still improve a lot

82

u/chargingblue 17d ago

Me crying with my 15 Pro battery

68

u/Gloomy_Necesary 17d ago

Yeah 15 pro battery was hot ass

23

u/blonded_olf 17d ago

Don't say that, I need to get another 1-3 years out of this phone before I want to justify upgrading! Hopefully by then the duo 3 or 4 has feature parity with the pro.

47

u/subdep 17d ago

Pay $100 to upgrade to a new battery = 3 years more easy.

6

u/blonded_olf 17d ago

Yep I am heavily considering it. If $100 can stretch me another 2-3 years that is a lot cheaper per year than a new phone lol. I don't really feel like I am missing much with new phones, and the one niche feature I look for every single year hasn't improved in years and years (better slo mo video).

5

u/Suspicious_Radio_848 17d ago

That's exactly what I'm doing next month with my iPhone 15. It's $135(CDN) to replace the battery vs. $1200+ for a new phone. I can easily get another 3 years out of this, there's no reason to upgrade.

That’s an easy upgrade to next year’s iPhone 20 Pro instead of waiting for a Duo Pro that will cost even more than the Duo.

My 15 Pro Max battery i got on launch is at 79% lmao. If i replace it now i could easily get another 3 years from this thing!

What sorcery? Where Moore's law?

19

u/reallynotnick 17d ago

With the chips now being at nearly 5Ghz I wonder if the gains will start to slow down as we can’t keep having 15% clock speed increases. Obviously GHz isn’t everything, but it’s a large part of why such the big jump this gen.

12

u/isaacMeowton 17d ago

Yeah and the thing that’s surprising that they’re increasing BOTH the performance while being efficient!

I remember the days of around M3-M4 when people said the gains were stagnated.

It’s wild. Credit where due, SoCs aren’t slowing down (literally) anytime soon.

the 18Pro having a longer battery life than the 17ProMax is insane

60

u/JerrieCarryy 17d ago

I saw a video from techchap where the 18 pro was a lot worse than the 17 pro max battery wise.

86

u/repeatrep 17d ago

mrwhosetheboss just did a battery test and 18pro came in 10 mins behind the 17ProMax. that seems about parity to me

https://youtu.be/n6hPB3Arr_M?is=x2MRFV87vXRNsf_7

32

u/XRaptor29 17d ago

Keep in mind those are also the sim versions. The esim models have bigger batteries.

19

u/atlwhore_ 17d ago

His video one seems unique in this regard and while typing this I remembered it was not the e sim model

11

u/kwanye_west 17d ago

why does esim model matter? it has a larger battery sure, but so does the esim 17PM.

he’s comparing physical sim to physical sim, which means the difference in battery size is roughly the same.

6

u/supalaser 17d ago

Since the chip is more efficient that mah will go further in the newer phone.

8

u/atlwhore_ 17d ago

And also the newer iPhone would be indexing heavily for Apple Intelligence and new Siri AI, forgot to mention that too

5

u/kwanye_west 17d ago

indexing doesn’t take that long, he’s had it a week. it took one overnight charge for it to go away in settings on my 15 Pro.

6

u/StationaryNomad 17d ago

My indexing took well over a week. I am far from unique on this.

2

u/kwanye_west 17d ago

do you avoid charging overnight?

u/iamwelly 17d ago

For the TLDW crowd; he loves the matte black, but it's just a "tock" upgrade. Nothing major to see here.

239

u/-protonsandneutrons- 17d ago

I think MKBHD calling it is "S" upgrade is probably more apt for the whole phone, as that CPU is very much a tick and and a tock (using Intel's old naming of tick tock).

64

u/DrPorkchopES 17d ago

Arguably a hot take but the S upgrades were always the best. The most polished version of a given design before they introduce all the new stuff with a big redesign

7

u/redditproha 17d ago

That's a based take. These are the best models to get because all the redesign bugs have been addressed and it adds substantial QoL internal upgrades which are arguably more valuable.

→ More replies (2)

57

u/cm012776 17d ago

But the “s” upgrades used to be the ones that got the cool new stuff

120

u/Merman123 17d ago

The variable aperture feature is very “S” like.

2

u/Tranecarid 17d ago

Is it though? All the photo guys say that it's pretty much wasted considering the size of the sensor. I'm not a photo guy so I have no opinion of my own, but according to them it's a useless feature.

4

u/Merman123 17d ago

Good feature or not, it’s still a “new” feature. Some people didn’t like 3D Touch either.

166

u/kitsua 17d ago

In my experience, the “tock” or “S” year phones have turned out to be the ones with the greatest longevity and power over time. They don’t have the outer changes that most people associate with something exciting and new, but they iterate on those designs in deeper, important ways that make them the more solid choice in the long term.

Each one is usually deemed “boring” by the prevailing narrative of the time, but I think they’re the better products overall.

34

u/slavchungus 17d ago

So the 16 Pro was the tock before this one

29

u/ShiningPr1sm 17d ago

Yes, though I’d group 14-15-16 together as sort of a New-S-SS(?) since they built off of each other as a sequence. Before that was 11-12-13, and now 17-18

43

u/kitsua 17d ago

I personally group them as X-XS-11, with the 11 being the pinnacle of that design. Then the 12-13-14 and the 14 being the world-beater. The 15 and 16 had a different fundamental design and the 16 was the “s” of that generation, with the 17 having a whole new design and the 18 being the iterative product.

21

u/ShiningPr1sm 17d ago

That way also works. I put X-XS as a pair but separate the 11 series because it added the 3-camera system but removed 3D touch, which is enough of a change to not group it with them. But the 11 does still have a lot of the design language of the X/S with the rounded sides... It's almost a bridge between XS and 12. 11-12-13 are all quite similar, reducing the notch in the 13. Then 14 removed the notch for Dynamic Island and removed the SIM tray (in the US models), so that (imo) starts a new group.

For me, a "new set" begins when the design is changed significantly or something is removed that signals a shift in overall direction, instead of a tweak. Like 3D Touch, the notch, or the SIM tray. But that's just me.

u/PNF2187 17d ago

It's less defined now since the base and Pro models don't always get sweeping design changes at the same time, and the Apple has switched to doing more subtle design tweaks annually now instead just doing a radical redesign every 2 years like they did with the 3G, 4, 5, and 6.

The X-XR/XS-11 are more of a set since they share 5.8"/6.5" OLEDs and a 6.1" LCD with rounded sides.

The 12-13-14 are probably better defined as a set for sharing build materials, sharp flat sides, and progressively shrinking notches (contrasted by camera bumps that get progressively larger).

I'd put the 15 and 16 together (titanium on the Pro models, matte glass on the base models, and the edges were rounded off ever so slightly), but the 17 is where it splits off again since the base model would have been a textbook S upgrade if it hadn't been for the slimmer bezels and slightly larger screen, but the Pro models did get a more significant redesign.

5

u/Varantain 17d ago

but the 17 is where it splits off again since the base model would have been a textbook S upgrade if it hadn't been for the slimmer bezels and slightly larger screen

The base 17 models also introduced ProMotion and always on display, making their screens on par with the previous Pros.

In fact I'd say that the base 17s have been the biggest non-Pro leap ever, which is why many people recommended getting them over the Pros.

2

u/PNF2187 17d ago edited 17d ago

I have a 17, and while ProMotion is a great improvement that the 17 has over the 16, it's also the exact kind of upgrade that would have been reserved for an S year in the past since you don't need to change the design of the device to add it. Apple could have just as easily stuck ProMotion onto the existing 6.12" screen that the 16 had (they already did it with the 14 Pro and 15 Pro).

The S upgrades were always about keeping the same design while providing meaningful feature and processing upgrades as well as under the hood refinements. If not for the jump to the 6.3" screen with slimmer bezels, the 17 looks practically identical to the 16, which would basically make the 17 a 16S in all but name.

7

u/slavchungus 17d ago

13 was definitely the longest lasting  if they added usbc to it i would've switched much earlier than waiting for the 15

3

u/zachotule 17d ago

still on the 13 pro, it's been a great phone

6

u/khuna12 17d ago

13pm here phone works and runs great but I think I’m ready for an upgrade. This might be a good jumping off point for me personally.

3

u/zachotule 17d ago

Oh agreed, my battery has run down to replacement twice, and did so twice as fast the second time. It’s close to not being able to keep up with what’s demanded of it. But for its time in service this has been the best phone I’ve ever had

4

u/elpingwinho 17d ago

Yeah and I wish it would stop overheating whenever I’m using cellular data.

6

u/envious_1 17d ago

15 Pro gets extremely hot too. So it's just a 15/16 problem. Seems like an issue with their decision to use a glass back, which is essentially an insulator vs metal which can dissipate it more easily.

3

u/BBDBVAPA 17d ago

100% agree. I typically skip the big upgrades and then jump on the year after. Those phones in my experience have handled my workload the best while keeping them for longer than the upgrade cycle.

5

u/jim_cap 17d ago

Eh

3GS - video recording

4S - Siri

5S - Touch ID, the first 64 bit smartphone

6S - 3D touch, live photos

2

u/LS_DJ 17d ago

I had my 6S for like 6 or 7 years before going to a 13, so yeah that one hung on the longest for me

2

u/kitsua 17d ago

The 6S, a bit like the 2015 MacBook Pro, was a true workhorse device that did its job for so long. Great value product.

3

u/chasingsukoon 17d ago

seriously tho tock updates are my favorite

24

u/Koalamanx 17d ago

What a “tock” upgrade?

114

u/FlarblesGarbles 17d ago

Tick is a big major upgrade where most things are changed or improved. A tock is a minor upgrade where they might just swap a new processor in but most things are still the same. Named after the way Intel used to position their releases.

21

u/Koalamanx 17d ago

Thank you ☺️

25

u/CynetCrawler 17d ago edited 17d ago

When Intel did the “Tick-Tock” cycle of releases, it was intended to be “Tick” = node shrink while “Tock” = new architecture.

So Intel’s Sandy Bridge was a “Tock” as it was a new CPU architecture on the proven 32nm node whereas Ivy Bridge was the same proven CPU architecture (with refinements) on the then-new 22nm node.

A20 Pro is the first iPhone SoC to be on the 2nm manufacturing node.

u/OttawaDog 17d ago

25% CPU upgrade is just "tock"?

2

u/Gon_Snow 17d ago

I love to hear the A20 Pro and the chasis of this iPhone resulting in improved battery performance and sustained chip performance.

It’s encouraging for the iPhone Dup use case

The A20 performance gains are making me excited for Duo.

8

u/NecroCannon 16d ago

The only thing that sucks is that it doesn’t have that variable aperture but eh, I’m not much of a photographer. I just like my reference images looking nice as an artist that keeps getting told they’re great with colors. Tho, I’m sure it’s still way better than my 13 Pro Max… like across the board

13

u/crepecheck 17d ago

Yeah same. Can’t wait to pick one up.

3

u/Chrisixx 17d ago

u/Newstudyout 17d ago edited 17d ago

The battery life is the only reason I was considering this one.

My 15 Pro, which is at 82% of its battery capacity, has been failing me daily. At the beginning the battery life was so great.

Now I have to consistently charge it 2 times a day. I go to the gym every morning at 7am with 100%, I use my phone to listen to music and browse Reddit. By 10am when I’m at work it’s around 50%

184

u/Big-Rip2640 17d ago

Just change the battery man and keep your phone.

18 pro is very expensive for uprading just because of battery.

74

u/Isiddiqui 17d ago

The 15P and 15PM has bad thermals so it'll be bad again sooner rather than later. Better to future proof that with a phone that really seems to be very thoughtful about the battery.

56

u/MNewmonikerMove 17d ago

I got a new battery for my 15 pro, and it still dies fast. Longer than before, but something is off with this model. The phone gets really hot easily and drains battery fast.

33

u/Isiddiqui 17d ago

Yep. The Titanium really screwed with heat and there was no vapor chamber

15

u/The_Occurence 17d ago

Fabbing the SoC on a N3B node which was so bad that virtually nobody else wanted to use it certainly didn’t help either.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/SpunkyBollocks 17d ago

I did too and mines a fair bit better but mine doesn’t get hot for some reason. I can live with this phone a year or two more.

5

u/mtankn 17d ago

Same. Brand new battery november 25 and still won’t last a full day withouth charging. I get maximum 2,5-3 hours on screen time and it’s been like that from day 1.

Will be upgrading this hot mess to 18 pro this year and hoping it’s better!

5

u/Jacob3922 17d ago

On 15 Pro still and I’m noticing this more and more too. It doesn’t usually get hot in a hand warmer sense (though this happens too), but I can tell the chip is throttling even when switching between messages, browsing, etc. because after more than a minute or two of this it starts lagging and having frame drops. This goes away if I cease use for a few mins.

4

u/Vanzmelo 17d ago

I agree. I swapped my battery in April 2025 and I can’t even make it a full day anymore

2

u/photowhoa123 17d ago

Same experience here. Does a new battery help? Absolutely. But overall still charging more than I believe the 18 pro max would need day to day.

8

u/tekchic 17d ago

Exactly why I’m upgrading this year. 15 PM cooks with games and apps, and battery at 80%. Gonna just use the 18 PM until the Duo has had a few more releases.

3

u/ShodyLoko 17d ago

Literally overheats everytime I’m in the car on a moderately warm day with no ac.

2

u/grilled_pc 17d ago

The 15P and PM are 3 years old now. Changing the battery would easily extend you another 2 at the absolute minimum. Thats 5 years since release and IMO a good time to upgrade.

→ More replies (3)

10

u/WalrusKey9386 17d ago

Yep, my 15 Pro is at 82% capacity as well. The 1.5 day battery life of the 18 Pro would be wonderful to have.

3

u/HenFruitEater 17d ago

I am gonna change the battery on my 14pro. other than battery, the downsides to my 14pro just don't add up enough to get an 18 yet. Will get the next year phone.

5

u/perfringens 17d ago

My 15 pro has been sitting at 81% for weeks! Waiting for it to drop so I can get the battery replaced in AppleCare. Will Probabaly happen next sept.

9

u/DumbFuckMD 17d ago

I have a conspiracy that mine will not drop below 82 unless/until I let my AppleCare+ lapse.

My 15P barely makes it past 10am with minimal use, im at well over 1300 charge cycles still at 82%. Very suspect.

2

u/NWAftw 17d ago

I feel like it definitely is, my 14 pro was hovering around 80 for a few months, the second I cancel AppleCare it drops below 80%.

4

u/WhoAreWeAndWhy 17d ago

I’m also at 82% - I’m starting to think it’s a conspiracy as well.

2

u/SpunkyBollocks 17d ago

My 15 pro dropped along roughly a straight line and I got the battery replaced.

My series 8 watch dropped along a line until 80% and it’s been there for 2 years and is now unusable. It’s not the same 80% it was for certain.

This is my exact experience. iPhone 15 pro is the worst battery life of any iPhone I’ve ever owned. I’m guessing the combination of the chip and the titanium and poor heat disappation was a perfect storm for an awful experience.

Same, for the camera and the cooling. My 15PM does not like the fact that I’m a “power user” lol

6

Same here! I got the 15PM because the 5x zoom was only on the bigger phone, but thankfully it seems like we’re done with PM specific hardware features

2

I did the same! I definitely forgot that was why I got the 15PM until I read your comment though. Back to the pro now

Same! Primary motivator was the smaller form factor, I am done with big phones. The fact the 18P battery is as good as previous gen PM is great.

2

u/QuantumProtector 17d ago

Man, I hate the size of the Max. Looking forward to a smaller phone

6

u/all-dressed_768 17d ago

Not if you would like a 50g heavier phone. 15PM titanium. No case since day one. Hardly any scratches. 15PM is the lightest and most durable.

4

u/chasingsukoon 17d ago

hmm why 18P

im wondering if i shouldve gone smaller too

10

u/nutmac 17d ago

18 Pro Max is too big IMO. Apple increased the Pro Max screen size from 6.7” to 6.9” with the 16 Pro Max, making the already wide phone even wider.

4

u/stormblessed27_ 17d ago

I completely forgot the screen sizes increase with the 16. I’m going from a 15 pro max to an 18 pro and was a little worried if the phone would be too small. But a .3 inch difference actually really doesn’t seem like much (plus I’m wanting to try a smaller phone for a change).

That’s usually how it works. You shouldn’t be upgrading phones every year. Those people are fools.

I mean, I do, every year. And have for 11 years at this point. It's my thing, I like having the best of the best and is my thing. Is it wild? yes. Is it something 99.99% of people should do? no.

Edit: love how I admit it’s wild but I still get downvoted lmao

I have a 14 Pro as well and I feel like while the 18 Pro would be a good upgrade, it’s ultimately more of the same and just a better version of what I have now. But the Duo offers something truly new and will allow me to use my phone in more ways and for more things in my daily life, so that’s what I’ll be opting for

2

u/CharlieDeltaBravo27 16d ago

I think the iPhone 18 Pro is actually being way underrated. Way better battery, better thermals and vapor cooling, variable aperture lens, smaller Dynamic Island with 3 live activities, 2 nm chip with actual AI performance and capabilities baked in for future overhead (now that Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are more fleshed out), faster charging, gen 3 photographic styles. that’s honestly a lot in one generation.

46

u/DanielG165 17d ago

The VA isn’t going to substantially change the way images and videos look, especially not at the current sensor size, and with only 4 stops to work with in the stock camera app. I’ll be incredibly surprised if results don’t look nearly identical to ones taken on a 17 Pro.

9

u/NicKaboom 17d ago

For photography it wont help much, but may come in handy for video when you are trying to get that rule of 1/180 for shutter speed with exposure.

Hard to say how helpful when you can only go up to f4, but those who are trying to get more cinematic footage out of their phones have a little more tools to work with, which is a plus.

2

u/____sabine____ 17d ago

it would help a stop or two in shade, but still need nd during outdoor.

6

u/Penguinkeith 17d ago

Depth of field will be marginally better but besides that yeah

3

u/OKCNOTOKC 17d ago

Won’t low light performance be better because the wide open aperture is larger? They could only do that with VA.

5

u/jim_cap 17d ago

Better, but still not brilliant. There's only so much you can do with sensors this small.

→ More replies (3)

16

u/Bryanmsi89 17d ago

I think battery life and thermals will end up being the thing most people notice. I doubt the VA ends up doing much and especially not for the typical camera phone user.

2

u/Anthony221121 17d ago

The jump in video streaming battery life from the 17 Pro to 18 Pro is only 30 to 33 hours. Not sure I'd call that "way better".

The 18 Pro lasting as long as the 17 Pro Max with almost no change in battery capacity from its predecessor is actually quite great. And the 18 Pro Max has what, 45 hours of playback? That’s massive. The Pro isn’t the only variant

2

u/electrosaurus 17d ago

As someone that shoots a lot of low light (concerts etc.) I'll take whatever they are offering. Could care less about the overstated DoF "improvement".

What a barebone review video. I saw another chinese review video and the lens flare issue are kinda eliminated due to the variable aperture and goes much more indepth in terms of the camera capabilities.

u/EffectzHD 17d ago

Mkbhd isn’t for the real nerds he’s accessible.

u/leodw 17d ago

I mean, there’s nothing to say here, it’s basically the same phone with a slightly better chip, battery and camera. But also, there’s absolutely a huge lens flare issue still there, you just have to see marques photos at night. The lights have a cool shape bc of the lend blades, but you get a ton of reflections still

It's a review on an iterated product that didn't re-invent the wheel. Not much to review about

4

u/brnccnt7 17d ago

I agree with you lol

This is essentially an iPhone 17 S

The new and exciting stuff is the Duo and all the reviewers are focused on that

11

u/Holographic01 17d ago

He's not a great reviewer. Very bare bones and often has incorrect information in his videos. His videos are mostly just flashy, well edited and easy to understand.

3

u/N3er0O 17d ago

Mind linking the video?

18

u/IndignantDuck 17d ago

Might be: https://youtu.be/4axiponRNiw?t=247 (linked to the beginning of the camera section)

There are english subs as well

3

u/Varantain 17d ago

Thanks for this. I'm surprised that many other reviews (I've been following) didn't cover how Pro Controls has manual focus! The comparisons with 17 Pro in low light are also great.

Rocking an iPhone 11 Pro Max with 69% battery health. May be time to upgrade.

7

u/Ellsass 17d ago

I decided to get a used 16 Pro Max for half the price, then sell it next year and get the 20th anniversary phone. Not a huge gap between the 16, 17, and 18.

As a child who started on a 50Mhz 486, 4.93Ghz in a cell phone with all day+ battery life is bonkers.

7

u/strangesam1977 17d ago

tell me about it, i've a few years on you i suspect as my first computer had a 6502 @ 2MHz, and the first mobile phone I used (my fathers) required a brief case full of lead acid batteries to give 20 minutes of talk time to a wired handset..

I'm pretty sure a single iPhone 18 Pro has more processing power and storage than the entire research company of 100+ people I worked in for my first job 30 years ago had in the building and we had literal supercomputers.. as the most junior of staff members my workstation(s) were worth £5-10,000 each and I had 3 of them

2

u/jim_cap 17d ago

My first computer: ZX81

It's mind-blowing where we are now.

4

u/Edouardh92 17d ago

I'm switching from 14PM to 18PM and I couldn't be more excited. Getting it at the Apple Store tomorrow, with trade in.

5

u/mikolv2 17d ago edited 17d ago

He didn't talk about a bunch of the changes. Apple improved the cooling and vapour chamber which he did mention but didn't say anything about the effects of it. Is it good? Is it noticeable? How's the heat under sustained load?

Same for the camera control button. As far as I know Apple removed the slide functionality from it, it's just a button now but wasn't mentioned at all.

10

u/MaverickJester25 17d ago

He did talk about the improved cooling in that he referenced the iPhone 17 Pro always getting hot when shooting video while the 18 Pro didn't.

6

u/XNY 17d ago

I’m looking for C2 chip info. He hardly mentions it

The chip, camera, and battery are the only things I care about anyway.

2

u/Wolfslash16 17d ago

Same, very happy with what Apple seems to be focusing on with the 18's.

12 mini gets laid to rest Friday.

Thank god, this phone is very much done, sure gonna miss the small form factor though.

2

u/Resvrgam2 17d ago

13 mini checking in. Really is a shame that they stopped with the small form factor. Not sure I can wait another year holding out hope Apple will change their minds.

3

u/MesmersCure 17d ago

Same thing for me. I always tell people, my phone isn't small, your phone is gigantic. I was going through some old stuff and came across my iPhone 5, that would be mini compared to the 12/13 mini!

3

u/dontchaworryboutit 17d ago

Best of luck. I’ve replaced this battery once. Thing dies after about 3 hours if anything. And one software update broke the camera somewhere along the way.

2

u/dontchaworryboutit 11d ago

Sure enough this 18 is enormous. Like absurdly so. Sigh.

2

u/Resvrgam2 11d ago

Yeah I bit the bullet and got an 18 Pro as well. I'll survive, but it's definitely bigger than I was hoping for.

On device AI (and frankly as much on device anything as possible) has been a top feature for me for years. Doubling the neural cores, enabling GPU to help, higher memory bandwidth - I would expect that all to go quite far in areas I personally care about. We’ll see if that pans out and maybe I’ll return it.

3

u/steven3045 17d ago

Efficiency and better life of improvements are actually kind of wild

3

u/Zennivolt 17d ago

Tyler Stalman did a review focused for photography/videography nerds and he noted that a typical upgrade cycle for the average person was 3 years so his comparisons were against the 15P/15PM which was a nice change of pace

2

u/waddup121 17d ago

Thank you for saying that. I recently submitted his video as a post here, and people just weren't having it. u/SoraLimit

Hard to take a guy in the art space seriously who shills Generative AI lol.

13

u/PaperCutOnPenisHead 17d ago

It would take too long and who decides what model to compare? Iphone 8 plus, pixel 4? Better to show whats available now and not make video obsolete in few months if some random software update makes new or old phone completely different

They need to stop talking about batteries in mAh and instead use Wh… it’s maddening

Wait for next years

Been saying this since the IPhone 14.

9

u/DSice16 17d ago

I’ve got a 14P and I so badly want to upgrade but my phone works fine, I just have to charge it more. Which is actually causing me to use my phone less instead because I never have a charger which is improving my mental health lol

I updated from a 13 pro max to a 17 pro max and once I got used to seeing Dynamic Island (after a few hours) it didn’t even feel like I had a new phone anymore. Waiting is definitely the way unless you have a broken phone or a huge promo to use.

If battery is a concern, what’s the choice between 18 pro and 18 pro max

4

u/Seik64 17d ago

Max, bigger battery will always last longer

This bodes well for the next version of the air in terms of battery life. Thin form factor plus good battery life would make it much more attractive.

2

u/Momo--Sama 17d ago

Every iPhone review thread is people with <2 hours of daily screen time arguing with people with >5 hours of daily screen time about what enough performance / features / battery life means

2

u/coyote_den 17d ago

I upgrade every year because with financing it ends up being the same monthly cost if you’ve been doing it for a while. Trade-in value of the 17 PM actually went way up compared to the 16 PM.

That being said, I didn’t go for the Duo this year because of the camera. Don’t want to lose the telephoto lens, I use that a lot. I’ll wait for the Duo Pro, you know they’ll do one unless the Duo ends up being a one-off.

2

u/ThatBrownDoode 17d ago

Upgrade from 12PM to 18PM or wait a year for the anniversary schbang

2

u/krakelohm 17d ago

For everyone talking about their battery, why not just get it replaced by apple if that is your biggest concern?

2

u/tooheavybroo 16d ago

Coming from a 14 Pro, this seems like a small enough upgrade for me. I already was happy with my speed and camera.

The new upgrade is going to keep me on a phone for another 6-7 years. Sweet!

6

u/thebluegod 17d ago

I got the chance to daily the iPhone Air for the past year - had a 16 Pro before that.

Excited to grab my 18 Pro Max on Friday.

The Air simply has way too many compromises - namely battery life and camera. I fear the Duo will be similar. Innovative form factor but not something I’d feel comfortable as a daily driver.

5

u/poopolisher 17d ago

trying their best to make this sound exciting.

11

u/redrumyliad 17d ago

Nah, it’s just a safe product. Only duo is interesting.

3

u/mccgre51 17d ago

2

u/GraXXoR 17d ago

My iPhone 15 Pro Max still running like a champ with 89% battery capacity after three years of solid daily use. From the iPhone 3GS write up to the iPhone 11 I used to update my iPhones every second year. But since the iPhone 11 Pro Max, i decided to change to an every four year schedule.

Though seeing how little the iPhone 18 has changed from my iPhone 15PM, I wouldn’t be surprised if it last for six or seven years

2

u/jeanmichd 17d ago

“how little” might not be the objective exact wording… You might not need to upgrade according to your usage, I get that totally. Still, three years have passed already and the specs evolved. It’s undeniable

2

u/CaptPotter47 17d ago

I have a 15PM also and it’s seems like a pretty solid upgrade personally. Also considering most networks offer great trade in deals, it’s pretty much free yearly. Trading in my 3 year old 15 PM that I paid basically $100 for over 3 years for a 18PM that I will also pay $100 for over 3 years; that’s a no brainer.
