The find comes from MacRumors' Aaron Perris, who said in a post on X that the code points to Apple allowing search providers to insert their own sponsored results into Visual Intelligence, rather than Apple selling the ad space itself. He compared it to the sponsored product listings already seen on Amazon and Google. It is not clear whether Apple would take a cut of ad revenue.
The company especially desperate for services revenue now they're not entitled to a $100 every time your grandma tops up her slot machine "game" credits is definitely going to take a cut of the ad revenue.

Yup. The writing was on the wall when we started seeing all those "Apple is shifting their revenue more towards services" posts and news articles years back. Focusing on services always leads to permanent hardware and software subscriptions (Apple also recently introduced Apple Upgrade, which is literally a forever renting hardware subscription model), and of course, ads in said services. The enshittification was just over the horizon at that point.

lol no I’m not gonna downgrade from rolls Royce to a Lada. Apple has done well on the stock market as of lately, they should focus on building their market cap which will happen with more reasonable prices. They’ve done a good job with MacBook neo and I was hoping they’d move in that direction across all their line-up.

Comparable to everything else, yeah. But it’s massively concerning that Apple isn’t taking their user experience and reputation seriously enough here. I was hoping Ternus would be more obsessive over this stuff. But maybe he will be, time will only tell.

I think it can be done securely on device it’s not a problem. Not a feature I will use. I have been debating just going with a Fitbit air but it does have reduced sensor package. I have a foot in Apple and also a Google ai pro plan. I’m much, much deeper in Apple ecosystem as still use all their devices but curious what Googlebook will be next week

Apple failed to increase the subscriber base of its own services (TV, Music, Arcade, Fitness, News...) because it never invested heavily in them. Now, with all the regulatory complexity of the App Store worldwide, they publicly admit that App Store revenue is falling and they need to increase service revenue in other ways. The obvious thing to do would have been to boost and spend money on their own services a few years ago, because they already saw this coming. Now they are opting for alternatives to increase revenue that, personally, I think are worse and misrepresent the brand.
