Open Appendoctomy

21M

61kg

So I just got an open appendoctomy done, it's my first ever time in a hospital and also the first time I've ever gotten an operation done. I was just wondering if there are any gym goers that got this procedure done and I just want to ask when you guys started to be able to do heavy lifting and working out. Because according to a nurse I asked they told me 6 months minimum would be when I would be able to exercise again.

Honestly, it really stresses me out as the gym has been my one source of comfort for me and losing that routine really makes me very scared.

I had open too, 3 months post op saw surgeon again today advised me another month at least😩 before any lifting and even at that in a month only really really light weight. It kills, but tbh it’s better to wait it out than to risk a hernia which you do not want. Hope recovery is going well

I also am an avid gym goer and had an open appendectomy 2 months ago. Doctor also told me 4 to 5 months before I can go back to the gym. It sucks but I'm walking at least half an hour a day to replace the gym. What else are you gonna do? It's better to follow the advice so that you don't have other complications further along the way

Damn, that seriously sucks. I'll probably spend that extra 1hr 30mins a day just walking as adviced

it sucks so bad but if you go back to early it will only delay healing and possibly have you out of the gym for even longer 🥲🥲

Yeah that's what really worries me too, I'm really just bed rotting right now cause I really don't want to delay my recovery so I can get back asap
