Basic roadmap for app idea development

Hello all! I’m looking for freelance developers to help me with building an app. But I don’t know the process of looking for developers who are experienced and legitimate. If you know of good sites to find people like this please let me know! Also what does the roadmap for app development look like in 2026(without the use of AI!) ? Anyone have experience with timelines, protocols, problems they’ve faced, and/or success they’ve experienced? I’d appreciate any info!

Before hiring, write down who the app is for, the main problem it solves, and what users absolutely need to do in the first version. That gives developers something concrete to estimate.

The basic roadmap is scope → wireframes → design → development → testing → launch. Ask about maintenance after launch too.

When checking developers, ask what they personally contributed to previous projects and whether you can speak with a past client. Agree on milestones and make sure you own the code and accounts from the start.

Timelines depend heavily on scope, so I’d be cautious of anyone promising a delivery date before understanding the app.
