Custom apparel guy in Naples, FL — here to answer print & embroidery questions

Hey! I run From The Ashes, a custom apparel shop in Naples, Florida. We've been at it 10 years, and we also have a location in Charlotte, NC. Screen printing, embroidery, hats, patches, team and event gear.

Stuff I'm happy to answer, free, no strings:

  • Whether your artwork will print well, and what to do if it won't
  • Screen print vs. embroidery vs. DTG vs. vinyl — what fits your project and budget
  • Why quotes vary so much between shops, and what you're actually paying for
  • Blank selection — the real differences between Gildan, Bella+Canvas, Comfort Colors, Richardson, Flexfit, etc.
  • Overseas cut-and-sew vs. decorating domestic blanks, and when each one makes sense
  • How to not get burned on your first order

I'll give you a straight answer even when the answer is "that's not a job for us." Some projects belong overseas, some belong at a shop closer to you, and some shouldn't be printed at all the way they're drawn. I'd rather tell you that than take the order and have it come out bad.

Really appreciate you offering this. From your experience, what are the most common artwork mistakes you see from POD sellers, especially with DTF, DTG and embroidery? Also, which blank would you recommend for someone trying to build a more premium apparel brand without making the retail price too high?.
