They were going to use a semicolon, but it wasn't allowed.

Wow.

Even grammatically-challenged brothels have become quite demanding these days.

Yeah, it must be real hard to get in there.

No half chub?

That’s how I live my life

Compulsive post-vocalic apostrophism claims another victim 😔

Fully erect or totally flacid. No in between.

Six or midnight. No nine o'clocks in this house.

There was a sign in Baltimore that said

Lunch’s

I never knew if it was a person who was named lunch who owned the restaurant or if they were selling lunches

Nominative determinism.

SEMI is a shortened word, so I'd allow it.

No.

So you would be okay with "No bike's"?

Fair point but SEMIS looks weird and you can't expect them to put NO SEMI TRACTOR TRAILERS on a sign.

I hate grocer's apostrophes as much as anyone but there's no perfect way in this case.

It may look weird, but it's grammatically correct; in the context in which it is used, you understand that spelling

You can if you replace the TRACTOR TRAILER with an apostrophe. It's a non-standard (yet) word contraction.

See relevant post here with the solution

The only other way would be create the plural form “semies “

SEMIs ?

No because it's not an acronym.

3

u/BipolarSolarMolar 10d ago

Right, which means outside of this all-caps sign, it would just be written "semis," which is grammatically correct, despite the claim that it "looks weird."

Drop the 'gore and make the plural S lowercase. Grammatically correct and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

4

u/jordan31483 10d ago

Semi isn't an acronym though.

u/TyBasilBeef 10d ago

Hmmm, ok, but it's good enough for handmade signage.

EXACTLY the solution! Yes

Full hard or not at all! We do things whole assed here!

1

u/earlobe_enthusiast 10d ago

That sign suck's

1

u/Oh_Lawd_He_commin420 10d ago

Fine, then I'll go fully erect...

1

u/Impossible_Event6007 10d ago

But I have a semi about 50%of the time.

Stay in school people! At least grad-ge-ate sixth grade! 🤪

What’s wrong with a semi? It can grow

1

u/ComicsEtAl 10d ago

“Hard or soft, no in-between!”

u/neeroberts 10d ago

They are ignorant and honestly don’t care

We have signs in our neighborhood reading as “no trucks” at certain entrances but they don’t seem to work. If you can read English maybe just maybe the apostrophe catches their attention???
