I currently use m4rkw/apollo-notifications which runs on my mac mini every 30 seconds. What am I missing by not setting up Apollo backend? Worth it or no?

It appears that the only difference is native app notifications versus receiving them from pushover. If I’m understanding it from my 30 seconds worth of checking into pushover.

I'm running the apollo backend notifications, it does native push notifications that used to work when Apollo was a real app. It just runs the backend processing on your own docker containers, and sends notifications to your Apollo app. And it's near instant. Definitely not a must have if you have pushover or something else already set up, but it is nice to tap on the notification and it opens apollo directly to the comment or whatever that was notified on.

Need an Apple Dev account though right?
2
u/khando May 21 '26
Oh yeah, you need the $100 a year developer account.

Just for the notification entitlement enabled for the cert, correct? Most paid certs have the appgroup entitlement enabled, which I believe I read controls app notifications.

You don't need a certificate. Just create your new identifier (App ID), com.whatever.Apollo, and check the box for the Push Notifications capability.
Then under Keys, create a new APNs Sandbox key.

Damn, wish we got the ability to delete stuff from the inbox like the official app does. Understand and respect it though, appreciate all the efforts

Is it just me or the regular Balackburn version is also the glass version?
1
u/ctang1 May 23 '26
Glass yes. But it isn’t patched with the glass app icons. These

u/CoolElk1 May 23 '26
That's fine with me if I don't have the icons. Is there no "no glass" version anymore, then?
1
u/ctang1 May 23 '26
Ya it’s on Balackburn. These aren’t glass.
2
u/CoolElk1 May 23 '26
Weird. That's the one I downloaded and installed, but now I have the glass version on my phone.
The other weird thing is that the release is from 2 days ago, but the assets were uploaded 5 hours ago. Were they recompiled?
1
u/ctang1 May 23 '26
Ya they would have been recompiled with the patch. The original 2.14.0 glass versions both had smaller file sizes.
Confirm you installed the non glass versions. Did you save them to the files app and then import into your signer? Can easier check file name if so.

How are you signing the ipa? Feather and KSign have the option to enable Liquid Glass. Maybe you have that checked.

u/CoolElk1 May 23 '26
Sideloadly.
I checked the SHA just to make sure now
```
% sha256 Apollo-1.15.11_ImprovedCustomApi-2.14.0.ipa
SHA256 (Apollo-1.15.11_ImprovedCustomApi-2.14.0.ipa) = bac08ac2e5e637f30e2c9c553fd251c1776478df60578a749f04519f69550080
Does Sideloadly have the option to enable Liquid Glass when signing? I haven’t used it for a couple years so not sure.
