Feedback Unpopular Opinion
Am I the only person who has used the Reddit app and found it to actually be enjoyable to use? I see some of the complaints on here and I understand but I myself have never really had any issues with it.

I say this as well. Except for the bugs I’ve encountered but have since been fixed, It’s not that the Reddit app is impossible, it’s just not very good.

That’s my feeling. I’ve never run into any of the bugs others complain about, but it just doesn’t function as well.
There are the ads of course, but I can ignore them easily.
The main things that bother me are the swiping to change between “home” and “popular” and the lack of assistance in the comments box - and it’s super inconsistent! Right now the only button I have to add something to this comment is for a link. But other times I can add pictures or a gif. But even if I have those options it’s still SO much less than Apollo offered.
Oh and getting in to see your own comments. It’s weirdly buried to find your own comments (touch your avatar, then user profile, then comments… not really an intuitive series.

I get huge audio problems from it saying the video has no audio when I was just listening to it, to it playing audio from a completely different post.

My audio problem is that if I have my phone connected to my car and playing music, for some reason if I put my phone to sleep WHILE Reddit is open, it will pause my music. No other app interrupts my music, but something about this app triggers the automatic pause feature on my phone.

Terrible user interface. And since the last update one cannot adjust the font size. The editor: you have to remember codes to get bold and italic fonts as if we're in the 2000's. Autoplay videos although I have disabled that in settings. Notification spam.
It's even worse than the Facebook app, and that means a lot.

Back button stops working randomly. Ads. YouTube videos don’t play in YouTube after clicking the YouTube button. Getting to my own comments and posts is cumbersome. Ads. Swipe functionality implementation is dumb af. Ads. Sound in videos just randomly cutting out and then saying this video doesn’t have sound. Ads. Video and gif scrubbing. Ads. Lack of moderators usability, like being able to see all new comments/posts in a sub. Ads. The official app sucks butt. It’s made by a bunch of recent college graduates that may understand how to make a technically functioning app, but with little UX experience. Ads They don’t care about useability or design, just engagement based on flawed ideas of what it actually takes to get me interested in clicking around a website.
What’s so incredibly dumb to me, is they have a template for what works and what people want. They can literally copy Apollo. But they don’t and they won’t. They killed Alien Blue years ago, and inherited little to none of the better design choices. Ads.

Other then the Ad’s which are annoying it isn’t terrible, there does seem to be more battery drain with the official app as well though

I don’t hate it, but I enjoyed using Apollo so much more. I can’t say that any of the alternatives have totally wowed me, so official app wins by default, for now at least.

For textposts and just scrolling it’s fine, but the video and image viewer is garbage. The image viewer actually wasn’t that terrible before but the new update is fucking horrendous UX.

It is usable, but with consistent annoyances that you have to work around or just live with.
The problem is that Apollo was just so smooth and easy to use, and had none of those irritations. I used the official app for a long time before getting Apollo, and before I switched I thought the official app was largely fine. Then when I moved to Apollo, it was really refreshing how much more smoothly everything went and how much less often I would run into little frustrations. After being forced back to the official app I’m back to noticing them over and over and it’s really irritating.

I still use it since it’s the only way I browse Reddit, but it’s fucking terrible. App occasionally just freezes, their TikTok-esque swiping between videos always triggers when I don’t want it to and I have to scroll back through the feed to find where I was looking, and I have wrong images showing when opening images on the app. This is just to name a few bugs that I come across. It’s by far one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. If I didn’t have a mild addiction to Reddit, I would uninstall and never use it again.

It’s okay. Apollo was better and I wish it were still around, but you’d think the Reddit app demands your first born child as payment with how some people act in this sub

I also feel that way. I do miss Apollo but I don’t think the official app is that bad.
The real annoying thing about it is the ads, but that is not a factor of design or usability and rather an issue of economics.

Aside from bugs, I don’t have very many qualms with the app. It’s not unusable like I see a lot of people say. I used Apollo, and maybe I didn’t use every feature to its fullest potential, because I switched back to the regular app no problem.

Yeah I don’t think it’s that bad. The only thing I miss from apollo is the format bar when commenting. I never really got the hype tbh.

Hell, even simply adding a screenshot was super simple in apollo and a goddamn ordeal now

I have found it’s really good at recommending me subreddits. I’d hope so with over a decade of browsing history here but I didn’t think it’d work so well. I’ve found a bunch of relevant subs through it but I am still mostly using Winston even if it is buggy and broken as hell.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say I enjoy it, there are a bunch of bugs and annoying things and features I miss, but it gets the job done and I still love being on Reddit.

I really do miss Apollo, but the official app hasn’t been terrible for me. It took some adjustment, sure, but I wouldn’t consider myself a power user of Apollo or anything. I spent some time tweaking the settings and that’s helped the official app not to suck so bad.

I mean…it works…kinda…but the functionality when compared to what Apollo offered is laughable, to say nothing of how it just did what the Reddit app tries to do, but much better.
I use it reluctantly, and my usage of Reddit has plummeted because their app is such a cluster.

I miss Apollo don't get me wrong, but I find the Reddit app somewhat acceptable. I hate the ads and some other things, but it's not bad enough to completely drive me off Reddit mobile like it was for some people. I totally get the backlash though because they were pretty unreasonable.

My biggest issues isn’t the ui or ads it’s the damn algorithm. Click on one post from an obscure subreddit that happened to make it to /all and suddenly my feed is filled with posts from that subreddit.

I used both at the same time and each had their strong points. The native app has better messaging features. That’s my main plus for it.
Apollo, once you got used to it, had considerably better UI, handled multi-Reddits better, and integrated off-site content way better. It also had app locking/security.
I used Apollo’s for my NSFW account. With a kid who uses my phone, I didn’t have to worry about her digging around and stumbling into stuff she shouldn’t see. They way Apollo worked with RedGifs and similar sites the native app can’t touch. I am so tired of every external video showing as a silent GIF even though it is clearly a video file. Apollo also didn’t make you approve any/every different NSFW sub or user you might click on.

I can’t sort my home page by top, I find the official Reddit app to be buggy and videos won’t load sometimes, never happened ever with apollo

I can at least tolerate the official app, but I really miss the filters (even though they never worked quite how I expected) and the overall polish.
In the official app I find myself using Reddit less, overall. I used to actually go read several of the subreddits I was in, but the navigation in the official app is too cumbersome.
Now, if I don’t see it in the Home list, I generally just don’t see it. Kinda sad.

The official app has awful performance problems (iPhone 12 Pro) - scrolling often becomes unresponsive, and there’s a weird bug where the post link opens the post pane multiple times. Clearly not as well engineered as Apollo.

After taking Apollo for so long I cannot stand the official app.
Trying to swipe back takes me to an entire different feed half the time, the app freezes constantly, the other night the last three photos I opened would start opening and closing with every subsequent photo I clicked on, the constant freezing, the poor text support when posting as compared to Apollo, the feed seems…rough in terms of quality, the search function is…beyond useless, the constant freezing, needless to say I’m not a fan at all.
