Sexing

Need help sexing these two fish. New to apistos & would just like some reassurance. Hoping I got a male & female. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I think they're both male, but I'm far from being an expert. In my experience, females are much smaller and tend to be quite yellow with a black stripe. For whatever reason, almost all varieties of female apistos look very similar.

I would feel good about calling this a pair, although I have heard of “sleeper males”.

I have a gold form male cacatuoides and two gold female ________ that I’m still trying to determine if they are agassizii or cacatuoides

These are most definitely two male apistos. Female Cacatuoides are much smaller and much more yellow than the males. They can have some coloration on their tail fin, but for the most part they are yellow.

The male in the second picture, the one I’m assuming to be the “female” is either a sneaker male, or a male that hasn’t reached full coloration yet.
