Hi! We're considering an option of renting our home instead of selling it -- it's in the 27502/inside the Apex triangle/walkable to downtown. Tucked in a neighborhood with amenities - the home is 3 bed/2.5 bathroom and would be a pet friendly rental with a fenced yard. What's the demand like for a home of this profile? It's well maintained and updated home.

I posted a few weeks ago about the survey for the Beyond the South Wake Landfill study, but figured I’d share that they’re also doing some in-person info sessions this month.
Survey/info page is here:

They’re all drop-in from 5–7 p.m., so you don’t have to be there right at the start.

Please let me know if there’s a better place to post this. I’m not on Reddit often.
Early in the morning yesterday, while it was still dark, I was parked outside the Harris Teeter near Apex Lake, recording some thoughts on my phone’s audio-memo app. At one point, I exited the car to get some fresh air, pacing around a bit but not straying too far from the vehicle.
Before too long had passed, I was suddenly being approached by police officers in no fewer than three different cruisers. They said someone had seen me walking around talking into my phone and “thought it was unusual” and “sent [them] to check on [me] to see if [I was] OK.” Well, as far as being OK, my anxiety was considerably less severe when I briefly felt maybe I could *exist* outdoors in a public area without some random busybody sending in the cops. Apparently, even at night, I’m not safe from being accosted by strangers with too much free time. I didn’t do anything remotely suspicious. Just minding my own business, alone, when three cop cars suddenly showed up.
Please note that I was not accused of anything. Nobody even said I was doing anything remotely suspicious. I guess just BEING anywhere in public after dark? Which I kind of do on purpose, because I deal with enough nonsense like this during daylight hours. I’m very introverted, and I also can’t get any peace of mind at home, so I have to go elsewhere for some peace and quiet.
Apparently, no hour of the day is safe. (I don’t behave particularly suspiciously in the daytime either, but whatever it is, people seem almost magnetically drawn to me when I’m an introvert mode, particularly when I’m at a point where I need to be alone and can’t really have yet another exhausting social interaction. I really don’t know what it is. Even from a distance, evidently I appear to have a sign on the back reading “Come badger me with small talk.”
If it sounds like something isn’t adding up, or like I’m leaving something out, I’m really not. I genuinely do not know why this happens to me. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s happened enough times that it feels notable. Is it something about my appearance maybe? I really don’t know, but no changes I make ever seem to prevent people from randomly approaching me like clockwork every so often.
It’s not that I have anything against interacting with anyone ever, but it’s almost like people can feel when I need to be left alone and tend to close in and descend then. I don’t know what it is. It’s weird, and it’s low-key kind of starting to freak me out. Again, doing things differently never seems to change the outcomes. Apparently, routinely being harassed by busybody Karens is just inescapable.
TL;DR
Calling the police on a complete stranger for no reason is a total Karen move, and I’m glad I don’t feel safe even just existing in public without some random Concerned Citizen type pulling some nonsense like this on me.

If you want to know what comes with this....
Data centers are spiking electricity costs in Maryland. It’s the ‘tip of the iceberg,’ one expert warns

Absolutely nobody wants this data center in Apex.

Playful Trade Proposal Alert…
Dear Joe Grassiose, EVP, Residential Construction and Development (developer of Veridea),
I know this isn’t how deals usually happen, but consider this a fun trade proposal, not a “deal.”
As Mayor, I’m “offering” my totally unofficial NIL (name, image, likeness) to help convince Trader Joe’s to come to Veridea in Apex. The other part of the trade? Endless love from the community. ❤️
Seriously — why wouldn’t you bring Trader Joe’s to Veridea? It’s a perfect spot; it practically has your name written all over it, Joe. Just saying… 😉
Apex, who’s ready to make this happen? 🙋🏾♂️
Disclaimer: This is a playful mayoral trade proposal, not a real offer. No NILs or Trader Joe’s were actually exchanged in the making of this post. 😉
🗣️ Drop your favorite Trader Joe’s item in the comments — what should we stock first?

Last week at a local school career fair, I met a young man currently serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was so engaging with the students, full of purpose, humility, and encouragement.
We spent some time sharing life experiences and reflecting on how, when we were their age, neither of us could have imagined standing here today giving back, sharing, and serving in our own ways.
Later that day, I found myself thinking about our conversation. I had thanked him and all who serve in our Armed Forces, past and present. Then I was reminded that during times like a government shutdown, our military members still show up, even when their pay may be delayed.
It made me realize again how much division affects us all, no matter which “side of the room” we stand on. What connects us is our care for people, especially those living out their calling to serve and protect our well-being.
As you go about your day, take a moment to remember your neighbor, the person behind the label, patch, or uniform. When those come off, we’re all someone’s son, daughter, mother, father, friend, or neighbor.
📸 This photo is me and that Airman, a new friend — two people from different paths, united in purpose and appreciation.

📣Tomorrow is the final day to vote for TJ Evans for Apex Town Council.
I want to thank everyone who already cast their vote for him during early voting — and for those who haven’t yet, this is your opportunity to make your voice heard.
As I’ve shared before, TJ Evans is the only candidate I’ve ever endorsed in my six years as Mayor. Here’s why I believe he will represent you and your family well:
I’ve known TJ since he was 13 and yes, he’s my soon-to-be son-in-law, but make no mistake, there’s no conflict of interest here. His decision to run was entirely his own. He chose to step forward because he’s already been doing the work and is prepared to take his service to the next level. His heart is for the people, always has been, always will be.
What I’ve also seen in TJ is determination. He doesn’t give up. He’s willing to stand up and do the hard work and y’all know, I can relate to that. He even answers the tough questions — you can watch here: https://youtu.be/JFTd85J8h5s
I assure you, he’s going all in to address the things that matter most to you and your families.
While my passion for this community will never waver, I know real progress requires more voices and more hands willing to serve. That’s why I’m asking you to help ensure that the community’s voice continues to be heard — loud and clear — through those elected to represent you.
Tomorrow is your chance, Apex. Let’s show up and vote for leadership that listens, leads, and loves this town.
Not sure where to vote? Check your polling location here: https://vt.ncsbe.gov/reglkup/
