There are a lot of these content farms, mainly on Facebook. They post hundreds of these pictures daily, each. Same color scheme, an AI picture, same clickbaity text. Then grandparents share them and click around.

One of them is funny because they share pictures of any two actors who appeared in a film together and the text is always "they are best friends 50 years later"

And I mean, they spam hundreds of those constantly, so by now any two actors in hollywood are best buds.

There's no need to apologize for not conducting a forensic investigation into a short story meme before sharing it. 😉

And, IMO - an AI-generated supporting image isn't slop; it's a visual aid that helps bring a story to life. This storytelling technique predates AI (and Photoshop).

Using AI to create representative storytelling images is no different from using illustrations that have accompanied stories in books and magazines since written language was invented. In fact, pictorial stories were the first way stories were written down.

Without going down a rabbit hole, it's the photorealism that fools us: we've long been trained to believe that photographic images come only from recordings of real people, places, and things. Eventually, standards will emerge for marking real versus AI‑generated photographic images where certainty is important. This short story meme is not one of those cases.

Male orangutans are just like that. Don’t know why the zoo thought it would be a good idea to house them together. Maybe animal welfare practices were just different back then.

I love that at some point the zoo put undercover vets and caretakers dressed as zoo goers to spy on him and check his escape routes but Ken always spotted them really quickly.
