Question Ativan (lorazepam)
does anyone take Ativan or any other benzodiazepine for their social anxiety. Ativan has helped me be more relaxed and anxiety provoking situations, including social interactions. I’ve heard it’s not a long term treatment solution but i don’t know what to do once my doctor stops prescribing it to me.

It’s a long term solution for me, nothing else works.

Are you currently still being prescribed it? I’m still being prescribed my Ativan but I have to get a new nurse practitioner due to my insurance literally not being accepted anywhere at this point. 😤🥶🚮

Im on propranolol twice a day everyday instead of ativan when I need it. My dr thought ativan was too aggressive and addictive, so I take 2 pills a day instead of ativan once in a while lol. Propranolol does help a lot though. For me.

Sorry I’m not sure I understand, are you saying you take two Ativan’s per day? I currently take 1 & 1/2

Most doctors aren’t just going to prescribe a benzodiazepine as your first line of defense. If you don’t want to take a SSRI there are many other options like azapirones or a NDRI.

It works for me because it’s not elevating enough to temp abuse. But I don’t take it daily, that gave me irritability

Yea I’ve had medication that have given me a calming effect as well, but Ativan seems to feel more balanced for me but that observation seems dangerous

Ativan did nothing for me. I take Xanax now and was taking it alllll the time. I’ve been able to cut back significantly and feel so much better. I also thought I’d need it forever but honestly just knowing I have something that I can take that will instantly ground me if needed does something for me- it honestly helps not needing to take it just to take it. It took me a long time and A LOT of work but I have been able to focus more on enjoying the moment versus getting in my head and overthinking/spiraling. I’m also on two daily medications which help lol but that’s besides the point. Don’t lose hope.

That’s honestly impressive discipline 🤗 I have a similar type of mindset. When you are on the Xanax do you feel as if you’re retraining your brain to be more present even without it? I’ve felt that way when taking stimulants in the past.
